That said, im not especially a linux zealot, for most everyday mainstream use of computer, gaming, video, most advanced web stuff, graphic software, edition etc i would still recommand using windows.

But for doing most service oriented things, linux is still much more convenient, because the way process works with permission, piping etc make it rather easy to program robust and secure server software, as its very easy to pipe a file to network, pipe the output of a process to network, doing transcoding by chaining the output of a process to another, then output to file or network, and chaining process like this allow emergent properties built by chaining combination of simple process via piping, protocol parsing and interactive network app, and the permission based on filesystem access make it convenient for all server related system task, where user/grp access permission to system resources fit, its very easy to make it works rapidly without headaches.

Even how remote access to graphic server with x11 make it easy to have remote desktop, remote rendering, by default, all based on the same system of uid, and process piping, is rather cool, windows still need third party software to get there.

And its all free, without license, and the fact that its open source can help lot if you have needs that are not completely covered by the default code, it can easily be patched out, and there is always a patch for everything, and software can evolve faster in many directions without being limited by license and closed source code.

Thanks...but...it's not plug and play :+)...

Depend for what :) now kernel have good support for most hardware. And to install and configure servers and remote access on windows its not all that easy either

Linux has plug n play system for decade, there is just not much graphic application and unified graphic configuration panel.

Instead of ticking a checkbox and entering value in an ui, its setting yes to an option and values on configuration files, which save lot of development time and ressources uses.

And multi user permission system on windows is a mess, culture of security through obscurity.

Or need to use much more complex and expansive system like ldap or such.

Omgoodness @h0bby1...can't you tell I'm a hopeless Wordie...wish it wasn't so...but...those commands make me dizzy...lol...literally...

Peace.

Its just other kind of words :) the language for computer ressources :D

Everything is a proccess -whitehead :D

SMH... :+)...Peace.
