Yes, blisters are always the killer for me! I found that I need at least 2 weeks of short walking in my hiking shoes before setting out on a decent trek. If not, it's blisters and limping for me... then a week to recuperate!
Bear bagging! Wow. Well, when we trek here in Australia, we probably have to Kangaroo bag more than anything else :-) but then we've got deadly spiders and snakes and oh... don't swim in that creek you know.

Hmm sounds like a challenging place to spend time hiking...But beautiful and probably SO worth it!
You're probably right there mate! I have a friend though, who does adventure hiking racing. I'm not sure what it's called but basically he goes out in a small team and they run/walk for days, plus camping, to get across a determined track and set their time. He's obsessed with it and I think it's quite a trend for corporate execs to get that mind-refreshing time plus exercise on a weekend.
Point being... if they can do that down under... there's hope for me :-)
