Joining Steemit and about me

A short story of how I got here.....

So just over two years ago I was a freelance health and fitness instructor, specialising working with people who had medical conditions. I would be very busy right up to the summer months and then I would have a lot of time on my hands as most of my clientele would be on holiday. So during the summer months I would find ways to make money online in my spare time (will cover this more in the future posts). I liked my job, but I did not like being tied to it, just as much as I did not like being tied to renting a home and paying for all the bills that came with it. Me and my wife felt that constantly working to just pay someone else (mainly rent and bills) and with the little free time we had we would spend money on days out and holidays as a reward for our hard work was not sustainable. In the summer of 2016, we got served noticed that our landlord wanted us to move out, this was the third time in as many years, so we decided a drastic change was needed. We sold all of our belongings we no longer needed along with our furniture and decided to do something completely different. With in 2 weeks we had whittled our belongings down to small storage unit size. We had about 10 days to decide what to do. We started pet sitting together, I started a thing called Match betting to earn money and my wife would do some locum work as a Pharmacist.

Two years on we are still pretty much doing the same thing, my wife takes care of the pet sitting side of things and working on a few projects of her own. I have moved into trading the financial and sport betting markets, along with a few other things like secret shopping and affiliate marketing. Individually none of the above makes huge financial gains, but combined them together you start create a small stream of income that add up to make a living.

For the last 2 years we have not paid for one single utility bill or rental payment, other than a few bed and breakfasts and staying with family and friends until we found our feet. Using a rule of thumb, renting and living somewhere cost us £1000 per month, so that is £24000 we have not had to go out and earn. With that out the way the only things we have to cover is food, entertainment, travel, clothing, and any other miscellaneous that may pop up. I am not going to lie, it can be tough moving from pet sit to pet sit, and making money from not having a traditional 40 plus hour work week job can be stressful, but I believe the pros out weigh the cons, even on the days when i feel it would be easier to go back to our previous way of life.

Why have I joined Steemit.

In a nut shell as I want to keep this post short, the Steemit project in my view is very forward thinking. Rewarding people to engage in social media will be a powerful tool for the internet, it goesone step further than the traditional using of social media for free entertainment. Also I have become a bit of Crypto geek over the last few years so that won me over too.

I look forward to sharing and engaging on Steemit.

Martyn.
