England v Germany - International Friendly - Friday 10 Nov

A we were chatting in work on a Friday afternoon, one of my colleagues mentioned that they had a spare ticket to the England game that evening. With nothing else to do that evening, I took him up on his offer.

Wembley Stadium host many sporting events and concerts. It's famous arch can be seen from far away and it has become a standout feature of the London skyline. A list of the events can be found on their website (http://www.wembleystadium.com/).

This game itself was a 0-0 draw but there were plenty of moments of excitement. At one point, loads of people in the crowd illuminated the stadium with their mobile phones which was pretty spectacular. There was also lots of flag waving and paper airplane making too!

It's definitely worth a visit if you're in London and there is an event that you enjoy happening within. Best time to go would be at nightime when the arch is illuminated.

Top Tips

  1. Plan your travel for before (and more importantly after!) the game. With a capacity of 90,000 spectators, it can turn into a nightmare if you're not confident with directions once the event is over. One wrong turn and you could find yourself at the back of a very long queue to get home!

  2. Bring some A4 paper with you! A Wembley tradition that seems to have caught on is making paper airplanes during the quieter periods of the game. The largest cheers of the night go to paper aeroplanes that make it from the highest seats to the pitch! Make sure you know how you will make one - alternatively, the internet has loads of guides, one of which is available here: http://www.artofmanliness.com/2014/09/16/how-to-make-the-worlds-best-paper-airplanes/

  3. Have something to eat and drink before you get to the area/stadium. It can be a little pricey inside the stadium (a hot dog and cup of hot chocolate came to £8.10).

  4. Wrap up warm! British weather can get cold at night!

All sound advice!

Feel free to pop in next time, this is the view from my balcony. It would avoid the wait for Wembley Park tube after the event!

I love event days, i get to experience all the fun and atmosphere week after week. I don't think I'll ever get tired of it :)
