7 People dead and 48 people injured following terrorist attack last night on London Bridge and the Borough Market area. At around 22:00pm (BST); a white van intentionally mounted the pavement and proceeded to plough through crowds of pedestrians. The three men then exited the vehicle and advanced into the Borough Market area, a place popular with tourists and Londoners. They continued into bars and restaurants wielding 12" hunting knives, stabbing and slashing at unarmed, unsuspecting civilians. The three men were also wearing what appeared to be explosive suicide vests, but upon inspection they were determined as fakes. Eye witness reports confirm the men had shouted: "This is for Allah", before carrying out the attack.
Police and Emergency Services were called to the scene from eye witnesses of the van attack. Armed response had successfully ended the attack by shooting the three assailants dead, all within 8 minutes of receiving the first stress call. A rapid response to a truly callous and savage attack.
Above is an image depicting the bodies of the men responsible. Their identities have not yet been released to the public as the inquest is still ongoing. Anti Terror Divisions have not yet confirmed if the men were under surveillance.
This is now the third terror attack in the United Kingdom within three months, following the car and knife attack in Westminster in March, which left five people dead, and the Manchester bombing less than two weeks ago, in which 22 people were killed. British Prime Minister Theresa May released a statement earlier this morning condemning the attack. She also confirmed that Britain must enforce anti terror laws more harshly and tackle online radicalisation.
More to follow on suspects identities when released.
