Kings Beach is not the most photogenic spot on Lake Tahoe but it is where the Vista Gallery is located (where I sell my prints). I wanted to get a "cool" shot of Kings Beach for the gallery so I shot this in the winter when there was plenty of ice along the shoreline. The sunset wasn't great but often after sunset, the low light can provide some great blue tones.
This was shot on a Canon 5Dsr, with a 16-35mm lens set at 16mm, on a tripod. The exposure time was 288 seconds, nearly five minutes long. This long of an exposure can smooth out the movement of the lake's surface and make it appear to be perfectly still. Long exposures can also create some interesting looks to moving clouds. The ISO was 50, and the aperture was f22, both of those setting can help get the long exposure. A Lee graduated neutral density filter was used to help darken the sky a bit and balance the exposure.

I really like the way the rich colour of the rocks in the foreground contrasts with the blues. Absolute stunner.
Thank you @onethousandpics! I also love how the contrasting colors ended up looking. The after sunset light ended up really working well that evening.
