LONDON: A pro-European Labour peer has apologised to Sajid Javid after sharing a "racist" cartoon which appears to mock the new British Home Secretary saying that he will deport his own parents to Pakistan.
Labour peer Lord Adonis has apologised for tweeting a cartoon which appears to mock the 48-year-old former investment banker, the son of a Pakistani bus driver whose family migrated to Britain in the 1960s.
Javid is the first South Asian origin MP to hold the key portfolio in the UK Cabinet.
In the tweet, which has since been deleted, a figure purporting to be Javid is seen at his desk, with the caption: "I just want to settle in, get organised, then deport my parents!"
He responded directly to the former education minister, Lord Adonis, saying "you're better than this".
Adonis then apologised to Javid for the "poor taste" cartoon, the BBC reported.

Javid took over from Amber Rudd, who resigned last Sunday in a row over targets for deporting illegal immigrants.
Quoting the original tweet containing the cartoon, Javid said: "Not like you Andrew Adonis."
