Love can be
Platonic, erotic or agape
Love can be what you feel for your family
It can be the warmth that travels through you
I’m not talking about butterflies or a stampede of elephants
I’m not talking about painful endings with beautiful beginnings
Departure harder than coming together
Making you wish you never formed a connection so tender
I’m talking about what brings a smile to your face
When the world is gloomy
I’m talking about what raises you higher than the tower of Babel
When you feel tinier than the Trolls
Love is amazing,
It can be fleeting or permanent
Love is an entirety of your being
In sync with nature
Love is seeing a man suffering on the street
And imagining you’re in his shoes
Love is the affection you hold for
Your society, community or nation
Love is a disco light
Shining in different directions
Love is enduring and silly too
It makes you forget all transgressions to your being
Love is in understanding your neighbour
And helping him rise above all impediments
Love is seeing people burnt in Burma
And feeling so strongly you raise a campaign against it
Love is seeing people die unjustly around you
And trying to stop it
Love is neither a lady nor a man
Love shifts like time and change
Yet is constant like the Northern Star
Love can chameleon to lust with the moon
And rise to adoration with the sun
Steadfastness is its tune
A caring heart is its forte
Love is lending a hand where no one else will
Love is caring even when no one may cares
Unrequited though it may be
The heart can love alone if it is just
Painful you may say
Love can find a place even in the middle of a war
Love is not dipping a hand into the pot of honey
And lapping up sweet aphrodisiac
Reaching Nirvana and seeing constellations
Without standing outside at night
Love is in the feeling that made you
Pursue such deep feelings of touching, holding, revealing
Love is in hatred
Both deep feelings
After all, one need not hate what one need not love
Hatred isn’t the opposite of love
It’s love transformed, an influence of love
One positive, one negative like charged atoms
Love is in the gentle handshakes
