If we could just view life as a glass half full, it will take us so far. Life is filled with many opportunities, and I’ve realized that there is no right or wrong path. I used to worry that I wasn’t making the “best” decision, but that wasn’t the opportune way to look at life. Everywhere we go, no matter what path we choose, there will be countless of doors waiting to be opened, and behind each door there will be new opportunities.
A great example of turning something that could be negative in your life into a positive is losing your job. After college, I got a big girl job, and I was miserable. I was working as a merchandiser manager, and I did not like it. The job did not challenge me to use my creativity, I had no work life balance, and it was a grind. Yet, I was too scared to quit. I thought to myself, “it will mean I’m a FAILURE.” So, I stuck around, for a year and a half. It emotionally tore at me and I was very unhappy. Well, I got let go, and it was a blessing in disguise. What I had dreaded so badly turned out to open new doors in my life. It allowed me to look for a job that I enjoyed much more and it gave me time to go home and even visit my family. All the anxiety I had from that job, vanished. At the time, I didn’t know what I wanted to do, and that was scary… but it gave me opportunity to explore. It gave me free time which I badly needed, and it gave me hope that I could move on and find a more fitting career.
The moral of the story is even in tough times, there is still opportunity around you. Maybe it is just the opportunity to practice resilience, but that’s something! Make lemonade out of lemons… trust me, life tastes so much better that way. When there is uncertainty and fear, just know that opportunity awaits you.
