Life moves fast at you. It is easy to dwell in the past or constantly plan for the future. We get so caught up, that we forget to enjoy life RIGHT now.
I’ve always had a “go getter” mentality, and I love creating opportunities. As a result, I usually have a million things on my mind. One of my biggest weaknesses is staying focused and present in conversations. My mind often wanders because I’m thinking about what I need to be doing.
Two weeks ago, I broke my collarbone, and suddenly my world came to a standstill. Things became slower because I am not able to do all the crazy physical activities I am usually involved in. A lot of plans I had, had to be put aside, so I could focus on my recovery. My injury has actually given me the opportunity to work on my weakness by staying present. Instead of constantly planning for the future, I am able to enjoy the company of my friends, which has really given me the gift of quality time.
I often think of the movie Click, in which the main character had a magical button that allowed him to fast forward his life. He would constantly pause his family time moments, to fast forward to work. At the end of his life, he realizes he has fast forwarded through all the good parts of his life because he was so focused on work. It makes you realize how precious life is and how quality time with your loved ones are extremely important.
So slow down, breath, and just let yourself live in the “now.” It’s all we really have.
Love,
Karen
Hold on! :-)
HAHAHHAHAH! yes! Thanks for the laugh.
When I saw the title of the article I knew what was going to be said because I have had similar conversations with myself. And like you do I also think of the movie "click". Sometimes I feel like Adam Sandler in that movie and I almost want to fast forward through the mundane parts, but I should not want that. Life is kind of like a video game, its fun because of the challenge! (If I started playing a video game that was designed for toddlers...the game might not be a hudge challenge for me.) If you remember the computer simulator/game "the Sims", I entered a cheat code where I had un-limited funds and the game became more boring. I have this saying "life happen in the small moments"
One of my mentors pointed out to me the Bible verse where Paul said that he was in debt (of gratitude) to both the Greek and the barbarian the slave and the free, he told me that as I go through life learn from everything. This is how to learn from everything: when you sit down and eat with people that have good table manners then learn to copy there behavior, but if you sit down to eat with people with bad table manners notice how there actions offend people and do not do what they do! Is your arm in a sling?
Wow thanks for the awesome comment! Thank you for sharing. Couldn't agree more.
My arm is in a sling, but I'm bad about it and I don't always wear it 🤣
are you right or left handed? and which collar bone is broke?
I'm left handed, and it's my left collarbone. Getting better at using my right hand though!
From what I understand when your body is forced to do things differently then your brain is forced to make new connections...think of doing things right handed as exercise
Hahah you are awesome! That is an amazing image. ❤❤❤
:)
Positive vibes coming here :) Peace to you
thank you! Feeling the good vibes! :)
Great post!
You play that guitar thingy too?! 🙃
hahhaha... I've been taught a couple times by different friends. I learn the song in the moment, and then I quickly forget if I don't practice. BUT like a good Asian, I do play the violin and piano. :)
Wow. Anything you don't do?! ;P
Sleep... I'm actully a vampire. :P
HI HI HI HI HI HI! It's Friday! Yeppieee... got anything cool planed this weekend Jon Snow? Aside from planning for winter... :)
Wow, Friday already.... I never even know which day it is these days! ;)
Too much greed/fear today trading ;). But steem is up slightly! I really love the fact I can't trade it (because it's locked)! If only all my money was in that then I wouldn't be able to trade any more ... which would be so nice😂
I had a bit of a break recently, but right now got to keep my eye on ethereum 24/7 .... so won't be doing anything ;). How about you? 😀
Any more thoughts avatar-wise? ;)
OH of course! Only people without full time jobs or who are self employeed have the luxury to say that! LOL everyday is a holiday.
AHHH Jon Snow... You fear winter. I see. :P HAHA. I think you secretly love trading :)
HMmM just posted on Steemit, so you can do your time thing that you like to do! hahah optimize.
Well since I'm broke and can't do acro, I'm going camping again this weekend. LOL Looking forward to seeing the stars again and roasting marshmallows. This camping trip is on someone's ranch... so it will really be glamping.
HmMm, we need to pick a theme. Do you want to be part robot, ninja, professor, a regular person, unicorn, animal, Cartoon version of Jon snow, Lego man, hahah... watcha thinking?
It is a challenging to be at present and making the most out of it.
Take quite a lot of emotional intelligence to accomplish...
Absolutely! and focus.
I wish that top photo was of me. You look so happy sitting there playing your uke. Do you have a view of the ocean from there? Your post reminds me that I too need to sometimes stop rushing on and enjoy the small moments while I still can. Thank you for this inspiring post and I hope your collarbone heals quickly!

Thank you! :)
@karensuestudios - Seeing this post right now made my heart sing!!!! it was like it was a message directly to me!
I wrote a post about precisely the same "primary topic" yesterday and I got so despondent because I had nothing but good intentions with it and I just felt that some people completely misunderstood what I said.
This was yesterdays post: https://steemit.com/life/@jaynie/do-you-trust-the-process-of-life
I spoke to my family and friends and they said "Jayne - you just keep doing what you are doing... you cannot make everybody happy".
So I wrote another post today to "state my claim" to that right to be MYSELF.
This was todays post: https://steemit.com/life/@jaynie/unapologetically-me
I hope they (or at least the first one) resonates with you, as yours did for me!!!! :)
Have followed, thank you again for that!
Much love from Cape Town xxx

it truly was!! xxx
I always find it fascinating how a persons environment affects their mindset. Its great to see such positivity in such a beautiful setting.
I can't imagine a busy New Yorker on a grey day making this post for example.
The connection with nature and beauty is vital to our happiness.
aww thank you for that. That was a really sweet comment! :)
Nature is healing. That is for sure!

hhahhaha! yes! I love space! Are you an alien? :P
Sure, like an Alien but ET is nicer 👽 Hahaha hope you don't get dizzy like I do here
Hahha I dig it!
A broken collarbone is rough. My brother had one and I remembered everyone who would come put their hand on his shoulder since you can't always see the brace.
Yes it is. Apparently, it is one of the most common bones to be broken!
This is a great post. I find my self fighting my own drive a lot of the time too. I've been practicing for a long time to be present, but it still takes a lot of effort. It's all worth it though. There really is no point in attaining goals if we never slow down to enjoy them.
The trick I used to change my mindset was I made happiness my number one goal. It helps me keep perspective and I try to use my drive maximize my presence and happiness.
I love this topic and you wrote a beautiful article. Thanks so much for your time to share this with all of us. Cheers.
Thank you for the awesome comment! I agree, I am constantly on the pursuit of happiness. :) It is a hard thing to stay present, but I try my best!
All we can do is try and enjoy the ride.
Cheers.
Life has an amazing way of making us stop and focus on what is truly important. I encourage you to continue to cultivate the solitude you need to be present in every relationship. I relate with this greatly, and have a quote sitting in front of my desk, "wherever you are, be all there". Keep sharing!
Aww that's a great quote! Thanks for sharing!
Second time I ever voted for you. I totally remember having voted for that post because of the picture and title. I guess I followed you from that point on.
Dawww! This is so cute! So who met who first? LOL I wonder if I found your blog before you found mine or vs versa. :)
The ride is fun and I always have a "go getter" mentality, and I like creating opportunities. As a result, I usually have a million things in my mind. One of my biggest weaknesses is to stay focused and present in the conversation. My thoughts often wander because I am thinking about what I should do.
I LOVE POST
Thank you!
