I was moving some old cedar lumber cutoffs from near my shed when I came across this insect (which first looked like some bits of grass stuck in a spider web). I used the 90mm Sony macro on the A6500 - handheld at f9 for 1/30s (pushing the limits of handheld time). Upon closeup inspection, the body is quite interesting with a featherlike covering... it was a bit blurred hence - no close up.
The common name for this insect is the Plume Moth... that figures, moth season is upon us here in Denver though I haven't seen many Miller moths yet!
Great photo! I've seen one of these before, only once though, and I live in England.
Very interesting to know they're spread far and wide! Thanks!
I think I see some tiny eyes. How da hell does this thing fly? Like a propeller
I was cutting a vent into my shed so I coerced him to move along - he did fly away, but I couldn't really tell if his wings were tucked along his thorax or those t-shaped protrusions... he did some push-ups as my finger got closer - natures warning huh... like at the gym?
if he was doing push ups. he was posturing for sure. showing off his guns. stay back human!
Looks like an alien
