🔥Fire🔥 is a very common event, infact i guess we see fire in our everyday lives, ranging from activities like lighting a matches, cooking with Gas, Fire logs during winter etc,
But as common as it is, do you know the mechanism behind a fire? There are 3 Elements that makes up the components of fire, They are
👉 Heat
👉 Fuel
👉 Oxygen
Simple right?? these are things we use everyday
But did you know that is this 3 elements combine in a close state in certain proportion it ignites a FIRE🔥
The absence of one of these three components in the fire triangle will not ignite a fire or it will reduce the fire impact significantly or entirely
e.g water can be used to eliminate heat from the component of fire by paper, wood, fabrics etc
Another, using a big blanket to cover a fire, eliminates oxygen and put off the fire
Briefly i will talk about each element needed for fire to ignite
👉 Fuel: Fuel for fire is any material that is combustible. Some examples of combustible materials are: Nylons, Clothing materials, Gases, woods, paper and plastics.
👉 Heat: A heat source gives rise to the initial ignition or start of a fire. This heat source could be from a portable heater, cigarette, or electrical current.
To maintain a fire and enable it spread, Heat is needed.
By drying and heating the fuel nearby,it enables fire to spread.
👉 Oxygen: From basic high school chemistry, we all know that air contains approximately 21 percent oxygen, and most fires only require 16 percent of it. Oxygen supports the chemical processes that occur during fire. This process is called oxidation, and it occurs when fuel burns and reacts with oxygen withing the surrounding air, releasing heat and generating by-products such as gas and smoke
These are some little facts about fire, you should be aware of
👉 In the US, fire deaths are mostly caused by Smoking 🚬accidents, and the mishandling of heat equipments.
👉 Every year, approximately 3,900 person die in fire related deaths, and 17,500 are injured in fire events.
👉 One of the most common causes of home fires is Arson, its presence in commercially operated structures is a major reason for fire deaths and injuries.
👉 Fire can suck all the oxygen out of a room and fill it with poisonous gases, i.e carbon monoxide
Some one reading this may be laughing right now, and thinking "i have being handling fire 🔥since when i was kid, so i don't need this information"
While that may be true for most of us, Understanding how a fire is triggered and spreads is important to enable us learn how to protect ourselves and familes 👪 incase of an eventuality
I will be discussing another important topic on DIFFERENT CLASSES OF FIRE AND HOW TO SAFELY EXTINGUISH THEM
Just a brief introduction for benefit of those not aware, the type of fire outbreaks in building structures and commercial facilities are very different from the fire resulting from burning Wood logs or fabrics.
Hence before you attempt to put off a fire, you should have knowledge of the class of fire being dealt with
a little example: Fire outbreak from houses and commercial buildings are mostly due to Electrical malfunctioning, without knowing this if you attempt to put off this class of fire with the wrong extinguisher, e.g Water 💧
The person may get electrocuted to death, because water is a conductor of electricity, and is a wrong choice of extinguisher for such fire class.
