Now a lot of macro photographer creativity to make its own lighting system and sometimes looks strange, for example there are using a toothpick box that is made like a funnel to direct the light gently toward the desired object image, the term creativity is usually called DIY (do it yourself). if there is a photographer who states using a DIY light modifier then it is a secret weapon from the photographer to get the appropriate lighting with which he needed.
At the time of using a small aperture of the diaphragm light is needed more so that the photo is not underexpose. The use of flash becomes very important especially if the sun / natural light is not very supportive. Many on the market are offering flash for macros. There is a flash ring, or twin flash (twin lite). The advantage is that we can adjust the intensity ratio of the highlight and shadow light. But because the price is quite expensive so I just use a regular external flash with diffuser only. If I was told to photograph a creature smaller than a honeybee I would probably need a flash macro, because the flash of an external flash is covered by a lens snout and not about a photo object.

Naturally macro shooting may be a bit difficult, especially if the photographed movement is very active like bees and butterflies. Sometimes there is an intention to facilitate shooting by trying to move, holding the animal to the background we want. One time I tried to move a butterfly that slept on the dining table for me to put on rose petals to get the composition that I want, but because the butterfly is not a model who understands if you want to be photographed then rebel the butterfly was and fly somewhere. What if the object is a bee? we might get stung. So do not ever interrupt their lives when we take pictures. So be careful while shooting.
