Macro Photography - Horse Flies (Tabanidae Family)

HI DEAR STEMIANS

HORSE FLIES is the most commonly used English name for Tabanidae family members. Regardless of the common name of "horse fly", this fly belongs to a large category of biting, blood-sucking. Tabanidae is also known as windflies, clegs or clags, deer fly, gadflies, or zimbs. In some areas of Canada, they are also known as Bull Dog Fly. In Australia some species are known as "March flies", namely the English title for Bibionidae flies ^source

Generally horse fly has a size slightly larger than the house fly. His body is relatively sturdy, with black, gray or brownish, sometimes there is a black spot on the wing. The eyes are shiny, filled with 3 soles.

Adult flies put eggs on the surface of leaves or places that are above the water surface. The larvae are aquatic and adults are often found in flowers to suck nectar and help pollinate the flowers. In particular, the Horse Fly loves to swarm around the body of cattle waiting for the chance to land and suck blood, sometimes also as a disease vector.

Oh man we have loads of horse flies here and they bite more than anything else!
