Blaue Federlibelle female (Platycnemis pennipes)

in #macrophotography7 years ago

The blue damselfly is a very common and widespread dabbler, which can hardly be confused in our area (Austria), but this is primarily due to the fact that the blue damselfly is the only species of the family of damselfly in Central Europe.

The egg laying of the blue damselfly is accompanied by the males in tandem, with the females also diving completely below the water surface and piercing the eggs into living plant material.

Oviposition is preferred in larger societies, thereby reducing the risk of oviposition as the victim of a water frog.

The development time of the larvae is usually 1 year, but can also be 2 years. The larvae shed their skin during development between 10 and 12 times.

It is always nice to observe these delicate, beautiful creatures.
