When we focus an image with a lens, the farther the lens from the image sensor, the closer the focus is. But the distance between the lens and the sensor is limited, there are limits to how close we can be to focusing the lens to the subject of a photo.
If at any time we want to take pictures with macro but don't want to buy macro-specific lenses, there are a number of inexpensive alternative scenarios that we can use:
1 we Install an extension tube between the lens and our camera body.
2 we Install a close-up filter in front of our lens.
3 Flip our reverse ring.*
Gradually we will discuss each choice, but for this post we focus on using extension tubes.
What is a Tube Extension ????
Tube Extension is one of the very inexpensive & effective additional tools for photo macros. The basic principle of this tool is to distance the lens from the camera, so that the sharpest shadow of the object falls on R3, which is the distance between 2f and infinity (f = focal length, lens focal distance). The effect is that an image received by a sensor is equal to or greater than the original object.
