Sargassum is a brown/green algae that ends up as seaweed mats in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean these floating mats are very diverse, and is a habitat for over 250 species of fish and invertebrates. Sometime a piece of the mat breaks loose and floats to the Caribbean where it ends up on our shorelines.
