The magic community is pretty small.. Most people play with magic as a young child and then life gets in the way and they move on to other things. The community of magic creators (the people that invent new magic tricks) is even smaller...

In order to be a great magic inventor, you pretty much neew to be obsessed with magic! Many inventors devote a huge amount of time into dreaming up new magic tricks, for very little financial gain.
Why do they do it? It's not for the money..
They do it because they love inventing tricks, and seeing their creation being used by magicians all over the world. They don’t get to be millionaires from their inventions, and as a rule, they tend not to be business minded.

Why do the creators of magic tricks do it?

Magic inventors are magicians like you and me, who dream up new idesa and want to share them. Magic creators love talking with magicians that use their inventions, and getting feedback is the life blood of the creative process. Inventors also tend to be magicians, so they are very easy to contact directly. Send an email over to the creator of the trick you are learning. A quick search online will bring up their website. Let him or her know you are working on learning their trick. It's a massive kick for them to know, someone values their creation enough to decide to master it. They will usuallly give you some extra tips, motivation, and advice.

Avoiding the dangers of magic forum reviews

When a new trick is promoted within the magic community, within a few days the magic forums become clogged with low quality ‘user reviews’ of the trick. These early reviews are nothing more than ‘first impressions’ as the reviewers has not had time to learn and perform the trick they are ‘reviewing’. Because of this, they tend to be based largely on the production value of the product and the first impressions of the gimmicks included. Often they are written after just a quick viewing of the DVD and a fiddle with the props.

These ‘reviews’ make up much of the feedback creators of magic tricks receives about their magic release. Don't put much weight into the findings of these reviews, many of the authors can simple be forum trolls that race to 'review' each new release without even owning the ite, They watch the trailer, guess the method, and then try to publish their opinion befoire anyone else. It's usually the same small group of 'reviewers' for every new release. Take them with as pinch of salt.

When an email comes in from someone seriously interested in learning how to perform the trick, it’s a real breath of fresh air to the creators of magic tricks, and they tend to help that person as much as possible. Their advice and guidance is very valuable to you!

I do stand up comedy in Japan and one of the guys we often have close our shows is a magician. I'm always impressed with his professionalism. He handles a crowd better than anyone I've ever seen. And he can come up with jokes off the top of his head while doing magic which are as funny if not more funny than most of the stuff I've spent weeks preparing. I always learn a lot watching him perform at out shows.

Steve, You should film some stand up and add it to your channel here! A lot of Stand Up Comedians also do a little magic, the two work well together as it's something visual to do whilst delivering material, rather than standing or walking back and fourth. I think both comedians and close up magicians get very good at dealing with hecklers and the improvisation needed when you talk to drunk spectators :) Best wishes @dominicreyes

Yeah, I put a video of one of my sets up on Dtube the other day, but since the material is extremely blue I had to put it under nsfw, so it has gotten much attention yet. I might try and edit some short clips with clean material later on and put that up.

cool. When you do, let me know. I'd love to check it out
