Last week I had a family adventure in Cornwall, we visited lots of places along the north coast by Tintagel and Boscastle. These areas have loads of ancient folklore from tales of King Arthur and Merlin the Wizard. So the perfect place to find a museum devoted to Witchcraft and Magic. They have 4000 genuine artefacts, and I was particularly interested in the COINS used as talismans for protection magic, charms and healing spells.
I've made quite a few Coin Rings, but I never knew about this old Victorian tradition of using them to cure people who suffer from fits!
I've found a few love tokens Metal Detecting but I didn't know about the significance of bending or breaking something to render it sacred! Love Tokens were coins (usually sixpences) bent into an 'S' shape and given to prospective lovers :-)
Most of us stackers will understand this with our lucky Pocket Pieces. Using the power of like attracts like, to bring us more shiny!
And funnily enough our pocket pieces are also stamped with the lucky number 9 multiple times. Pure silver and gold is lucky :-) ๐
This Queen Victoria Sixpence has been strung to a 'Hag-stone', this was done to stop the piskies stealing your wealth in the night! ๐
Well worth a Visit if your ever in the Boscastle area, one of Cornwall's oldest and most popular Museums ๐
I loved this trip to the coin lore. Thank you for showing it.
