The New Moon, Banishing and the Elements

in #magick7 years ago

The New Moon is a time when we focus on the inside, psychic awareness and the personal self. It is an excellent time for endings, as it is representative of the darkness or the without. During this time, the light of the moon is hidden and secrets that are normally not spoken can be heard through the planes of the unconscious. It is during this time that I like to think about the opportunity for personal growth. That being said, the process isn't usually pleasant. Diving into the microcosm can be downright scary, especially if you don't practice all of the time or try to be a Sunday occultist, so to speak.

For this reason, I would like to talk about the possibilities of growth during this time of the month and help to utilize the strong vibrations as the moon rests in the dark. With the power of the moonlight gone, the night is black and we can dig within ourselves, delving into the shadows. Whatever lurks there, within you will come out during this time, in a silent scream of depression, defensive aggression or even disturbing dreams. Often, while there are discomfort in these things, they also bring with the growth.

I like to equate this time of the month to that which when the seed is planted. It is covered with soil and will have to break open, cracking the shell and dig up through the soil in order to reach the light of day. For people, this is a cycle that we experience over and over again. During this time, there is often a build up of the negative as the pain from the process formulates in a variety of ways in the individual. Because of this, it is often much easier to identify the negative.
When you can identify that which no longer is serving you, you are able to banish it.

The Banishing

Banishing is a process where you remove something from the area around you. You cast it away and that which you banish is no longer welcome. This process can be done in a formal manner, with a full circle or it can be done more casually. I suggest, you go with a practice that you are comfortable with. If you are unsure how to do a banishing, most pagan and witchcraft books practice this craft. feel free to find one and then rewrite it, making it your own.

Elements of banishing should include a clear and concise direction of what you would like to be removed from your life. understand that it may not be easy to do and may come with a cost. If it is a more difficult banishing, such as thoughts of a past lover or smoking, then you have to realize it took time to create this process in your mind and it will take time to undo. For these kinds of things to be banished, I suggest a full ritual in any manner that you are comfortable with.

I would also include the elements as part of your practice. Adding components to the ritual will help you to clearly combat the negative through the month until the full moon when you can incorporate healing.

Rather than telling you what to do with your ritual, I will simply share the format that I have used and found good luck with.

Simple Suggestions for Banishing During the New Moon or While Waning

Step one: Cleanse the space and call the quarters.

Step Two: Identify and evoke the deities that I want present. This month I chose to work with the Egyptian pantheon.

Step Three: Identify the negative areas that you want to banish.

Have them in your mind and speak about them and what you want changed and offer a banishing exercise that will keep you clear minded throughout the month.

This is a good time to incorporate the elements. For direction on this and how you can use them, see below for specific details.

Step Four: Light a Black candle and specify your intent

Step Five: Dismiss and Say Good Bye to the Dieties, Thanking for their presence and assistance.

Step Six: Release quarters and open circle space.

Step Seven: Repeat your mantras each day for banishing and reminding yourself that the gods are helping you. Use any elemental focal piece you may have incorporated each day. Do this each day at least once a day or as often as temptation arise until the full mooon

The Elements and Banishing

Some things to consider about Elemental and corporations that you can use for a banishing ritual include any or all elements.

Air

Negativity often stems from thought, and feels like an emotion but it is truly a thought pattern. One way which the elements of air can be utilized in ritual for banishing spells is by incorporating a breathing pattern as part of the process. With each breath you take you include a word or phrase that you can think of that will cause you to instantaneously refer yourself back to the state in which you prepared the ritual in. It does take some practice and it can either be a single phrase such as peace or harmony or balance... Or it can be a phrase or mantra.

The Comfort ritual used by the Golden Dawn incorporates your individual love and transforms negative energy to be cast out into the world and taken in by others as positive energy. It could be equated to when humans breathe we exhale carbon dioxide and trees can take this into produce oxygen which we then breathe in and a cycle is created. If you have positive intentions and you bring the positive into your mental state this can createand eviction of negativity done through the element of air.

Fire

You will likely find fire helpful for burning away negativity and for cleansing your path for the future. This is a good time to light The Blaze air purification, Vanishing all that which would cause you harm. The light given off from fire can also create a radiating glow around you and your life. By casting fire in your circle and using a candle for the banishing you can use that as candle magic to represent the flame cleansing the in purifications that you no longer feel the need for in your life.

Water

Consider spritzing the inside of your circle as you do your banishing or taking a drop of water mixed with oil and anointing your temple before beginning work. By doing this you can evoke a sent correlation to your emotions. Oil especially carries a heavy scent and is liquid, it can be used throughout the month as well to be a reminder or tribute to the banishing ritual that you created on the new or waning moon.

Earth

To use Earth in banishings, consider malachite or hematite, which are both helpful for taking on negative thoughts and emotions. These pieces of the Earth can take a lot and will absorb negativity around a person, making it easier for the person to resist urges or two fall into old habits that are no longer useful for them. Is especially helpful to have a physical reminder of the changes that you were attempting to make and having a piece of the Earth with you whether on a necklace or in your pocket, can remind you during the days after the spell when you were continuing work to produce a permanent banishing.

Thanks for Reading!

I do my best to post regularly, but sometimes life gets in the way. There is a bit of time this month to get off some last minute banishings and then we will go into a time that is better spent purifying, healing and ealing work and practices. There is only a little bit of time left this month. Alas, today is the solstice, and we have a few days of celebration and joyous harmony that is about to line up. With Mercury finally thinking about behaving and the energies normalizing it is set to be a pretty decent wrap up of 2018.
