The definition from google doesn't make sense in the context I've heard it used in. I've heard people talk about something being "heteronormative" when they're just talking about an argument one side makes in a political debate about economic issues. Which leads me to believe it's like horoscopes!
People believe it means something, even though it's generic and doesn't really mean anything because so many people have warped it.
