Oh Steemians! I've been living in Los Angeles for 15 years now, and somehow I'm still not used to the heat. I dress like I live in the snow; all black with boots almost every day. The past couple of weeks have been so unbearable, but I refuse to give up my ensemble (It's not just a phase, mom!) so I've been suffering and sweating like a sinner in church from the second I wake up to the second I go to bed.
Meanwhile, every time I leave the house I get a sunburn. Scratch that- every time I think about leaving the house, I get a sunburn. It's like a party trick. At this point, my natural skin tone is Cherry. It's been real fun packing on makeup for my shoots to cover up my negligence, so while I'm ramping up to do a ton of Halloween looks, I thought it'd be fun to poke fun at myself and show you Steemians a really simple SPFX look that's easy, cheap & funny!
DIY Sunburn Makeup!
You'll need:
-Red body makeup (I used a cream face paint from Bloody Mary Cosmetics: http://dearbloodymary.com/product-category/face-paint/cream-wheel-face-paint/)
ALTERNATIVES: Ben Nye, Kryolan, a deep red blush or eyeshadow (a tedious process!), or any red cream paint that will be in stores soon for Halloween!
-Liquid Latex (I used Ben Nye's Liquid Latex- a small bottle will do! https://www.stagemakeuponline.com/02-LL/Ben-Nye-Liquid-Latex.html)
ALTERNATIVE: Elmer's White School Glue!
-A couple cosmetic sponges and stiff Kabuki brush to blend cream makeup (optional)
- Apply even layer of red cream paint to areas you want affected by the sun (think about where you generally get hit with the sun- tops of arms, chest, face. Avoid areas like your armpits, bottom of forearm- you don't generally get hit by the sun there if you're just walking around town!)
- Apply a thin layer of latex to areas of your skin that you want to look like it's "peeling"- my go-to is the forehead, shoulders, chest. Stipple with a flat side of the sponge, and let dry. Repeat 1-2 more times. Not too much!
- Carefully "pick" at the latex, until you get your desired flaky look.
- Enjoy the painful reactions & looks of empathy from people around you. ;)
Have fun with this look! Draw outlines of silly things on your skin- sunglasses, a camera around your neck, a bikini top- get creative!
I think I'm going to pitch these as a new sunglasses campaign. What do you think?
With Halloween fast approaching, are there any ideas you've been thinking about trying, but unsure of how to achieve it? Let me know in the comments! I'd love to help and post some more quick/easy tips! xx
Haha pretty funny idea, creative too
Thank you!!
Omgosh. I need to come up with a costume idea soon too!
I got plenty of ideas!! It's creeping up on us!!
It is! I think you should switch the images around on this post. Your costume photos are so bright and vibrant that it would get you better views than your current cover photo.
Smart!! I tried but I don't think it's letting me update it :(
Yeah, after 7 days then you can no longer edit any posts.
this is brilliant! I love what you're doing. Im glad you're on steemit with a sense of humour (humor) and so much creativity! I look forward to checking out all your crazy styles :) basil x
