Dear Steemit Community. Have been browsing through the various posts here and got sucked in to the posts and content available. There is a feeling of a great community here of people who want to express themselves on a variety of topics. I hail from the small island of Malta and as a first post would like to share some information about what where I am from.
Probably a number of you have never heard about the island and are now scrambling over to google maps to see where it is located. Well we are located almost dead centre of the mediterranean sea and that means we are blessed with lovely beaches on all sides of the islands but also quite a warm climate (except for this week which has been the rainiest for quite a while!)
Just above you can see Ghadira Bay which is towards the north of the Island. In Summer which runs for around 4-5 months the bay is jam packed with locals and foreigners who head to the beach to find some respite from the sweltering heat (and humidity), sometimes in excess of 40 degrees C!. It is one of the larger beaches in Malta which is mostly sand and just a small rocky area. One funny fact about this beach is that while in most beaches the farther away you wade from land the deeper it gets, in Ghadira it gets deeper initially then it gets much shallower until it finally starts becoming deeper. This makes it a favourite amongst families with young children since it is quite safe. Also the sea water here is rich in minerals that help the skin as well as the respiratory tract hence helping keep colds, asthma, and respiratory conditions at bay -> I can personally vouch for this
And above you can see Armier beach. Another gem further north of Ghadira beach.
Please note that Malta is very small. You can travel from one side to the other in 20 minutes by car, were in not for the traffic that plagues our streets. With 35 new cars being registered on the roads EVERY DAY the roads are severely overcrowded but ill leave that to another post
Between Bugibba and Mellieha, you will find a small winding road leading downwards to Mistra beach
Few tourists come here since many do not notice it however it is definitely worth a visit
And finally for this entry the small beach known as Tax Xama which translated to English means Wax beach. This beach is only a couple of meters long however what makes it a favourite is that is is covered by two caves which provide natural shelter from the sun from the early hours of the morning till around midday hence a good option for families with children whose parents do not want to hassle about the children getting severely sunburnt. Get there early though as otherwise in the summer months you will barely find a place where to put your towel!
I hope you like this first entry. I will be following up with more both related to Malta as well as other issues that interest me. Any comments or questions are welcome. Till the next!
