The international break is over and the transfer window is shut, hence now we can get back to the premier league with no further distractions for a few games. Its gonna be a very busy month for both teams, and with 3 games into the new season we have a fair idea of how this season is shaping up.
Man City were the favourites before a ball was kicked, however their opening performances has been unconvincing. City kicked off with a 2-0 win away to promoted side Brighton fc on what was a frustrating day for them, and an even more limp 1-1 draw at home to Everton followed. These are not the type of performances Pep Guadiola would have wanted after spending hundreds of millions on new recruits this summer.
Liverpool may have broken their record transfer budget on Mohammad Salah, he is always looking like a solid purchase, however their primary coup looks likely to have been the retaining of Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian international was the subject of a £140 million bid by Barcelona. Liverpool have managed to hold on to their prize asset and could make an appearance on saturday.
Even without the services of Coutinho Liverpool looked devastating in attack, scoring 8 goals in 3 premier league games. Man City are the odds on to win this match, and IMO this looks like a poor choice from the bookmakers.
Liverpool have looked the more solid team than Manchester City so far this season and their 4-0 demolition of Arsenal showed they can do it consistently against the big guns. City were lucky to avoid defeat at home to Everton, and could have been embarrassed at Bournemouth. Liverpool who are a far better team than both of those opponents will feel they have a great chance in grabbing the 3 points on Saturday. Defensively there are major questions to be answered and with City's attack I cant see Liverpool keeping a clean sheet. So I am backing Liverpool to do well here.
Both team to score looks solid value at 5/1
Liverpool to win 2-1 at 14/1 is also a very decent offer considering Liverpool are unbeaten in 6 games against City, and Jurgen Klopp has a very good record against the top sides.
1 - 2 Liverpool to win
Yep Liverpool should do the business.
