I was swamped by meetings all day today so couldn't find the time earlier. Final thoughts: I knew it was coming, but L’s death still hit hard. I wanted him to stick around a little longer, just to see how much further his battle with Light could go but I knew L's end was near once Misa came into the story. Their dynamic was the heart of the series for me, so losing that is bittersweet . That whole sequence, Watari being the first to go, L realizing his own death being seconds away, and then that eerie moment of silence before he collapsed like was so perfectly done? And then Light's face and L realising he'd been right all along. And Rem… She really sealed her fate the moment she decided to protect Misa. Like she knew Light's plan but still decided to sacrifice herself and I found that really tragic. Ryuk might be cute but Rem was really a sweet reaper, answering questions and having a sense of morality and all.
But with L gone, the story immediately shifts into something bigger and like Light is now fully unleashed in maniac mode and it's no longer Kira playing cat-and-mouse anymore but big scale we’re seeing him build an entire world around his idea of a 'utopic' world
And then Sayu… Seeing her again after all this time, only for her to be caught up in a full-blown kidnapping plot? She’s barely been relevant in the story, but suddenly, she’s the key to forcing Soichiro into a corner. It’s a harsh reminder that Light’s choices don’t just affect his enemies; they’re creeping into his own home now and I love that's portrayed here, Ryuk going 'ooh so he does have soft spot for someone after all. I remember being kinda disinterested in the anime series atp on and I'm feeling similarly rn but I do need to see until the end of this.
