Morning All Question? Is it me or does anyone else think that fall is going to be coming way too early. Do you find that it has gotten cooler like close to frost way earlier in years past. Do any of you read nature, like the migration of geese and how early and how low they fly to determine how many weeks to winter or snow or heavy frost? Thanks for responding in advance
@wholesomeroots I planted carrots, peas, radishes and spinach so far. I planted my potatoes late so that they would be ready to harvest end of october, they need 100 days to be ready to harvest, here in Canada it's a guessing game with the frost, but as long as your seedling is up and healthy your root veg should be ok, and well protected in the ground.
Hello Everyone! First off THANK YOU @wholesomeroots for letting us know about this! I seen it on your homesteadingchallenge post! I had no idea about this.
AHH! A cat 5 headed this way.....Living in Central Florida we just never know...we have been flooded many times in our yard and had many near misses with large trees but this one looks scary...Our house is solid poured and our barn is built for winds up to 180 mph being inland that should be fine...God will take care of us..come what may!
No, lol, I think you are going to the wrong place? The post I shared had link to mangosteem in the post text. Clock on it and it takes you to chat room. On left are the channel options and Homesteading is one of the channels. Click it and you are in Homesteading chat room.
I watched a flock of geese yesterday, flying really low, so to me that indicates really early frost/snow, I want to say 11 weeks to snow. Here in Canada. But wait how many weeks till Christmas....LOL
We don't typically get any crazy weather here in Canada either except for massive snow/ice storms that can knock power out for days. We can have 8-9 ft of snow fall in a winter so flooding in the Spring around the bodies of water can be devastating, The ice buildup would crest and dam the water flow backing it up and over the banks.
Morning all. I just posted a story about my experiment with 3 types of green bean planting methods. Hope you go and check it out, it has some interesting results even after we had a couple of frosts.
Thank you @wholesomeroots we are going to be busy chatting on here and on slack, but hey you never know where you will get that great piece of information that may just help in the homestead or garden. Which country were you from again, I meet so many on STEEMIT.
I'm so excited about this opportunity and this channel! I am out for the evening for dinner at friends but would love to chat later if anyone is around!
The best autovoting advice I ever saw was from a guy on youtube. he's been in for a year ... and he said ... let's get real ... if you have a life you can't keep a constant eye on all your favorite eye after about the first 60 days ... you need help! and it's like cutting a record deal. you like what they're doing, you support them, check in on them as you can, and continue or discontinue supporting them.
My cats all came down with something. they were all sneezing. and one showed up walking around drunk as a skunk with her head twisted like it had been rotated a healthy 15 degrees ... after disappearing for 2 days. People told me she had gotten old of some little blue tailed lizard but the more I researched ... I came across something that made more sense. outside cats can come down with a specific kind of ear infection. Silver all the way
I live so far away from being able to help out the poor souls who have been devastated by the flooding of Harvey so I made a post this afternoon to try and help those with the knowledge that I know. It is called cleaning up the vegetable garden after flooding. It may be just a small gesture but there is some good info for people so that they wont get sick and save what crops they can.
We are going to have some serious rain and wind so we are making room in barn to bring the chicken tractors inside! At least hubby doesn't have to go to work during the storm and he can be here to help us with any last minute preparations and in case of emergency situation.
Not wanting to link drop much in chat but this should help answer @imransoudagar https://steemit.com/homesteading/@wholesomeroots/what-is-homesteading-anyway
mango is dying!

It's really new and in early stages of development but upvoting chat Comments works like it does on a steemit post comment.

I hope everyone in southeast US has evacuated or prepared for this storm adequately. We are in Georgia and are getting last minute supplies today!
Be Safe @wholesomeroots
