Aceh Besar and Banda Aceh have not been rain this two months, the situation makes the people of Aceh Besar who generally work as a farmer was threatened crop failure this year due to lack of water supply. Dry season is not a new thing happening in Aceh, in 2012 Aceh has also been hit by a drought that resulted in farmers in Aceh Besar failed to harvest.
Drought is classified as one of the most natural disasters in the world, one of which also occurs in Indonesia. Natural disasters are events that occur because of certain causes. Likewise with this drought, this drought occurs because it is caused by several things.
- The dry season is too long
One of the most common and most natural causes of drought in Indonesia is the long dry season. This indicates that no type of rain is down in a longer time than usual.
If the rain usually does not fall only for about six months, but when the rain does not fall for more than six months then the community has lost the water source as usual. The long dry season causes the water source to be less water supply, while for its own use does not change.
- Lack of water absorption due to the lack of trees
Drought events in Indonesia also occur due to lack of water absorption. This water impregnation is formed when we plant trees. Plant roots or tree roots will absorb water that drops from the rain water to the surface of the water and store it as ground water. The water stored by the roots of this tree will be locked underground so that we can use it during the dry season, so from that area in the trees, the presence of water will be easier to find when compared with the area that is only planted with few trees. Therefore it is very important for us to come to plant trees for the availability of water that we need.
Trees not only serve as absorber and water storage, but also many greening functions, such as reducing air pollution, beautifying the landscape, as a source of oxygen, and so forth.
