I wish their motivations were that simple. We've build up a lot of infrastructure and a lot of careerism based on the 'war on drugs' and it's not easy to flip that monster upside down.
Max Keiser makes a good point: when central banks just print money via mouse-click and govts start banning cash, why are tax revenues needed other than as a political distraction? The war on drugs is a power play (with side benefit of limiting the people's imagination for different futures) that will only be given up if there is some other mega scam ready to take its place. Yeah, I'm being very cynical but with good reason I think.
