The subject had been heating up in several media outlets and on the internet after he voiced political positions in commentary and announced a tour of American states.
He said he would visit Facebook offices and meet with professors and scientists in small towns and universities.
This announcement was seen by the British newspaper The Guardian as the latest in a series of actions that indicate "Zuckerberg's intention to seek a government position."
"Last December, documents made public - linked to a class action lawsuit filed in April - revealed that Zuckerberg and two (company) board members discussed how the CEO could attempt a political career and, at the same time, maintain Control over Facebook. "
In April 2016, Fortune magazine reported that Facebook had agreed to make changes to the company's structure and that these changes would allow Zuckerberg to run for the US Presidency.
The founder of Facebook, now 32, would be old enough to compete by 2020.
