Enjoy the shortest trip around the world you ever experienced, perhaps taking in a market from somewhere you have never been, seeing something you may have never seen.
It is such a beautiful day today! Let's head over to the Baltimore Aquarium, located down on the Pier in the inner harbor of downtown Baltimore, which is often described as a sightseeing hub - and for good reason. You will also find the Maryland Science Center that sports a planetarium and its own observatory. It is so nice to go downtown, especially near the harbor. They have made it beautiful. It has the best sights, sounds, and food! I'm all ready!! How about you?? Let's go!!!

The Chesapeake lightship is moored at Pier 3 in the Inner Harbor, right outside the Baltimore Aquarium. It is a lightship, (otherwise known as a lightvessel) which is a ship that acts as a lighthouse. They are used in waters that are either too deep or unsuitable for lighthouse construction. If you purchased a ticket to the Aquarium, you are able to tour it for free. It is part of Historic Ships In Baltimore museum.
Welcome to the Jelly Room. How can you not love a place that calls themselves a jelly room??
The Jellies. Can I say that I love this room? I do! It is my favorite room in the whole place! It is literally filled with tanks and you can spin a 360 and watch as each tank has a live ballet being performed at that very moment, until the very next moment, trailing her tentacles behind her. She is beautiful. She is a jelly.
Do you know how jellyfish move? They squirt water out of their mouth and contract and relax muscles to push them forward. Isn't nature amazing? Seriously.

The Pacific sea nettle’s body, which is referred to as a bell, is yellow in color, to reddish-brown, and the long, ruffled tentacles can be yellow to dark maroon. They are always so impressive looking in the aquarium as they swim around, their long tentacles following them!
These are called Moon Jellyfish. It is easy to see why. They are most commonly found on the coasts of North America and Europe as they like the temperature of the water. Their life span is about one year, from beginning to end.
That hand you see is mine! I like the open tanks where you get to reach out and touch them! Do you know what a jellyfish feels like? If we are talking about the clear, see-thru ones, they feel like jelly. Not sticky at all, but very soft. The darker red ones with the long tentacles feel like jelly also.
Cool, but, strange feeling.
They are impossibly beautiful, with the grace of a ballerina. Who can resist their charm?
Just look at this Lobed Comb Jelly. They shimmer under the set of black lights. They are jelly-like invertebrates with bright, iridescent color bands. We actually have them in the Chesapeake Bay, here in the Northern Virginia-Washington, DC area. They are also found in most oceans. soure
"Comb jellies have both male and female reproductive organs and can actually fertilize themselves. Each comb jelly releases about 8,000 eggs per spawn. Unlike jellyfish, comb jellies develop without distinctive larval and polypoid stages. Comb jelly species are difficult to distinguish from each other when they are young."source
Did you know that a group of jellyfish is called a bloom??
I know you won't believe this, but, the jelly room is as far as I got if you can believe it. Because I have been to the Aquarium dozens of times, I don't really worry about only covering one section at a time. I had a great time and I am glad you got to come along this time!
As always, there must be a flower. Always. To color my world.
Below is the USS Torsk, a World War ll Tench-class Fleet submarine, one of the two that are left. It used to have shark teeth painted on the front and they are no longer there. It is open for tours. I had to use a photo I had taken a different time as I forgot to snap on on my way out. Sheesh!

Oh I am glad I got this in before the lecture. I was just seeing that we are going to get hit with snow to the tune of about 7 inches! I think I should run down there and pick up one of those snowblowers! Then again, I do got Ben :)
Yes, well, to be honest, you would be money ahead with the snowblower I think. To be honest, it takes less gas and doesn't run your grocery bill up to the hills. Think about it.

It really is, isn't it? I hope you watched the video, Sally. It really shows off their ballet skills so nicely. Although I am willing to stick my hand in the tank at the Aquarium. in real life, I am not a huge fan of spotting them when I am swimming, although diving is not a threat.

Beautiful photography! I am surprised they let you touch them. I lived in Caribbean many years and got stung many times by jelly fish. Once badly. ☹️ On the back of my neck, I couldn’t feel that area for a whole day. Some of them are really dangerous. Nevertheless, they are beautiful and oh-so-gracious.

I forget which island you lived on? I am pretty sure I have been there a time or three. I love the islands, but, not convinced the health care is what I want and with tourism on the run, lets just say, I would rather visit for an extended time than live there. A lot of them are beginning to be more expensive than ever.
That is out fault for being good tourists. I still like the seasonal changes and I like having family around. I have been stung by the little meanies, but, it is their ocean not mine, right?

I'd love to visit that aquarium. My kid is in love with marine life. I gotta show him these photos with the jellyfish. They are so gracious. Their underwater ballet is fascinating!

Jelly fish are fascinating although I don't like them at all. They look very scary to me :D Am I not brave enough? Maybe.
However, you have some very good photos here, as always.
If you went diving, you probably wouldn't be afraid of them. They glide aimlessly through the water and are fascinating creatures. However, when I am swimming, the last thing I want to see is a jellyfish! They can really sting!

They really are amazing them jellyfish they really don't look like living creatures more like galaxy stars or something like colorful in the universe they are truly amazing most definitely.

It really is, isn't it? I hope you watched the video, Sally. It really shows off their ballet skills so nicely. Although I am willing to stick my hand in the tank at the Aquarium. in real life, I am not a huge fan of spotting them when I am swimming, although diving is not a threat.

Beautiful photography! I am surprised they let you touch them. I lived in Caribbean many years and got stung many times by jelly fish. Once badly. ☹️ On the back of my neck, I couldn’t feel that area for a whole day. Some of them are really dangerous. Nevertheless, they are beautiful and oh-so-gracious.

I forget which island you lived on? I am pretty sure I have been there a time or three. I love the islands, but, not convinced the health care is what I want and with tourism on the run, lets just say, I would rather visit for an extended time than live there. A lot of them are beginning to be more expensive than ever.
That is out fault for being good tourists. I still like the seasonal changes and I like having family around. I have been stung by the little meanies, but, it is their ocean not mine, right?
I do love the dance of the jellies. So magical and yes! Gracious! Thank you so much for taking the time and energy to put together a post and for dropping the link here!

I'd love to visit that aquarium. My kid is in love with marine life. I gotta show him these photos with the jellyfish. They are so gracious. Their underwater ballet is fascinating!
They really are, aren't they? I am totally mesmerized watching them glide carefree across the water.
Le sigh.
It is truly the most beautiful thing. Don't forget the video! He will love that. I have been fascinated with them all my life. I am happy I live close enough to get my fix of the jellies now and again.

Jelly fish are fascinating although I don't like them at all. They look very scary to me :D Am I not brave enough? Maybe.

If you went diving, you probably wouldn't be afraid of them. They glide aimlessly through the water and are fascinating creatures. However, when I am swimming, the last thing I want to see is a jellyfish! They can really sting!

I know! The jellies are pretty awesome, aren't they? Right up until they sting you! :) However, here in the aquarium or when you are diving, they are divine creatures and oh-so-lovely!
