The Ole Lollie Shop.
This is my first entry for Market Friday hosted by the lovely @dswigle since joining Hive.
I stepped into The Ole Lollie Shop in Palmview, Queensland and I was immediately transported back to my childhood when sweet treats were displayed in large jars and there was so much variety it took me ages to decide which ones to choose.
I spied confectionery I hadn't seen in years, covered in the same coloured wrappers I was familiar with and the same well known trademarks printed on them. Not much had changed in the presentation of the old fashioned sweets but one thing had definitely changed.......and that was the price. I remember paying, '5 for a penny' back in the olden days. And each tangy, hard, round aniseed ball used to take forever to dissolve in my mouth.
The air was laden with sugary aromas and I hardly knew where to point my camera because I had MARKET FRIDAY in mind NOT what was I going to buy.
Did I just say I wasn't there to buy? That was my goal and I had every intention to achieve that goal. John, on the other had no such resolve.
Anyway, Let's not linger. Allow me to take you inside.
What is the first thing you notice about the image below? The Fairy Floss? The beautifully wrapped chocolate and fudge? The attractive display? Or the 50% off marked prices peaking out of a large wicker basket?
The true Bargain 'Hunter' in Trudee 'Hunter' salivates at the thought of saving a dollar but I quickly remind myself that is a business venture, not a buying frenzy. I would remain strong.....I would not weaken. I would not succumb to temptation. But then I hadn't seen my favourite kiwi treats yet.
Cadbury Chocolate & MnM's MMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmm!
Pascalls Fruit Bon Bons have been around since I was knee high to a grasshopper.......so has that quote. (lol)
Have you ever indulged in a hand made, 'White Chocolate Shoe?' This was the first time I'd ever seen one of those.
A glass container was filled to the brim with colourfully wrapped sweets.
If......and I repeat IF, I was going to be tempted in The Ole Lollie Shop, then a packet of Liquorice Allsorts could just be my undoing, especially a premium mix brand. I'm sure I could smell that heady scent of aniseed and sugar seeping out of those packets. Moving on!!!!!
Now what child could resist these goodies? Speaking of kids with a sweet tooth! Where was my husband? Not far, (not surprising) and as suspected, he was looking with his hands, not just his eyes. If he walked out of here empty handed, I'd eat my hat. I wonder if they have a chocolate hat to go with that chocolate shoe?
What would you chose? A Coconut Rough Cluster? A White chocolate Heart? Or a Milk Chocolate Freckle?
Beneath a giant Toblerone sat a few engraved Anzac Biscuit tins. It's interesting that right now (it's Saturday here) in Australia and New Zealand, citizens are celebrating and honouring the lives and scarifices of soldiers who fought bravely in past wars and others serving valiantly for the freedom of our two countries.
John and I joined dozens of our neighbours at the break of dawn this morning by holding candles on our balconies whilst others gathered (keeping social distancing in mind) in their driveways and streets, united because of the Anzac Spirit and some even shared home made anzac biscuits at these ceremonies.

On that somber but reverant note, I will finish this first segment of my visit to the Ole lollie Shop because there is so much more to show you. But I promise to return with Part 11 next Friday.
A monster MnM waves goodbye with a wry smile but the 'Open' sign will remain until I return. See you back here soon.
But before I go.......in keeping with the #alwaysaflower tag I present you with a glorious display of purple tibouchina flowers glowing in the sun.

THANK YOU FOR VIEWING. HAVE A GREAT DAY.

Many thanks @ewkaw for your fine tip. Really appreciate it.
My pleasure Trudee! :)
Thank you @pixresteemer.
Wow! That’s quite a shop! After this shopping spree, I will have to make an appointment with my dentist! Very tempting to try a bit of everything I have never seen before!
I agree with you there @kaminchan, the shop owners must be a dentist's dream. Lol.
Wow! That was really an old fashioned candy store, wasn't it? It has all sorts of confectionaries in there! I have to be honest, I don't have much of a sweet tooth. I am more of a savory snacker. How weird, right?
However, if you are asking me which one I would leave with? It would have to be those liquorice allsorts. I do love liquorice! I will eat that almost anytime! Thank you for taking us along with you here. You always bring me to the best shops! I have ask, no longer 5/$1.00
Le sigh.
Candy has gotten like GOLD! Did John end up leaving with something good?Who am I kidding? Everyone I know would be happy to leave with the whole store wrapped up! And the flowers?Gorgeous! Always!
