I understand things take time and everyone is not as forgiving anymore. The effort to make heads or tails of the way Steem can be promoted is not an easy task and one thing I would also like to see is real actions that can be taken. By Steemit INC., by users etc. Plans are good and they need to materialize so I hope this post's brainstorming and even the ones you've done yourselves (internally, slack, steemit.chat) will show some actual implementation strategies.
My povs:
Referrals:
- To start referring people they need to like what they see when they arrive (not just the $ signs on the posts). I say this UI wise
- There needs to be a clear tracking and referring way. We have great devs around that can whip up a referral analytics platform to be used for Steemit.com
- Referral rewards: for sign ups. These can be as an initial rewards for every new sign-up and maybe additional bonus % when the referred accounts powerup
Steemit for Dummies
- a Steemit official kb detailing everything about Steem in a simple way
- constantly updated as there are changes every other month
PS. Please add a note on the steem.io website that the WhitePaper is obsolete.
Make it easier for people to buy/sell Steem:
- Easy implementation for conversion straight from the Steem account to BTC etc. Partnership with Blocktrades for a dedicated button in the Steemit wallet page, why not
- Paypal or any other fiat processor conversions. This would be awesome if added through a 3rd party partner
Big Names:
- we need big names to start joining and blogging, building content for Steemit even if it isn't exclusive. They have the ability to drag millions of followers with them. Marketing should reach out to those influencers and have them sign up with certain benefits
Apps built on the blockchain:
This is something that has been said about Steem from day one yet no real app is allowed into the blockchain. Yes there are changes in the recent forks to pave the way towards rewards sharing but an official process needs to be developed for existing and future apps, to be audited by Steemit Inc., declared as official Steem apps and rewarded from the Steemit INC development fund.
New app ideas could be:
- Twitter clone
- 9gag clone
- Disqus for commenting
- wordpress add-on to have your steemit articles on your blog
Misc:
- Tipping
- anonymous transactions
Final note. When you guys publish the plan next week, I hope there will also be a well thought budget included. You can't base the platform's marketing just on the user's involvement and the reward pool. As the proverbial saying: Put your money where your mouth is!
I wasn't planning on including the budget in that document. It will be a top level overview of our priorities and what we're working on.
There will be a separate budget for supporting crowdsourcing marketing and partnering with projects though, that is a certainty. As we define the protocols, we'll make that more public. We need to be careful with this, because there's the tendency for crowds to think 'have money, USE MONEY', which leads to wasted funds. Which is precisely why we're focused on getting the protocols right.
That said, on pretty much everything else I agree with you 100%. Especially apps.
Thanks for responding to my comment.
All in all:
If stake based voting is involved in choosing where the funds go I guess the use money part comes with a responsibility. Off course each choice will be trolled (as usual).
Building the battle plan is a big part of getting it right, but that can't go on forever and actions are needed to sustain the faith in the plan. For ex. I'm having a hard time trusting Synereo simply because they're taking years to come up with the technology they keep talking (and talking) about and has made me stay away from buying AMPs.
Agreed. Great points all around.
How is Steemit going to deal with users like me who are still logged in but cant remember their passwords? I moved my money into Steem and powered it up and now its lost forever? This issue needs to be corrected or it will drive users away.
First advice: don't clear your browser cookies.
2nd advice: maybe try to do a password recovery through the Stolen Accounts Recovery (sandwich menu top right on any steemit.com page). Be sure to try that in another browser not the one you're using to post on steemit as that might log you out. ALso, this would work if you ever changed your password.
3 Not sure how you signed up, but maybe there can be a way Steemit Inc . can implement to recover passwords via the phone number provided? Not sure about this.
PS> If @jmc is the account in discussion here, I understand you are upset about losing immediate access to your steem, but looking at your account, it's only about 140 steem which is quite low in terms of value. I can send you 50 steem if you create another account to sort this out short term.
Hi Andu,
I really appreciate the reply and the kind gesture.
I don't want another account. I want to fix this flaw. I can code. If steemit cant fix this flaw then how do I get steemit to let me fix it for them? Do you know how I can make that happen?
Thanks!
If you can code head over to their github and propose the change.
All in all, I'm not sure how this can be sorted, I don't know if a password recovery system can be implemented other than the current system.
