This mostly people forget.
The very basic rule, the very core of Marketing & Sales is.. Giving what they want. Period. Nothing else matters other than simply give what they want, we as marketers or sales sometimes or maybe should i say often think smarter than our customers.
Let say a person simply need a decent laptop to type, but the salesperson keep on talking about killer feature such as great graphics, outstanding processors, good design, etc and trying to soaking it all up to the buyer.
Focus on the person who do the buying. This person hold the money. Focus on the money don't be a smart person, be a clever person. Make the sales, get the money.
Ask what they need is way much better than trying to identify what they need by giving lectures to them on what to buy or not.
Keep it simple.
