All has begun with a rainy day from Rome to Narni.
When I arrived in this city founded in the I sec. b.C. I met the other students of my course while waiting for the professors. We are ten people from all over Italy who think that nowdays the knowledge and respect for our historical cities are very important to preserve and keep them alive, with the aim of passing on our origins to the future.
The professors talked about the meaning of heritage, monument, resource and vulnerability of historical city, which is the part that I prefered and I think to base my thesis on it.
There are many problems with the study of a historic city, first of all the architectural survey to have a base to work on.
Excluding traditional methods such as the total station, the professors presented us the laser scanner with which it is possible to acquire data and return a cloud of points to be processed on the computer.
The exceeded difficulty of measuring, however, is replaced by that of processing the data to return the plants, the elevations, the sections of the things detected.
The problem of energy and seismic analysis of buildings was very interesting too. We can not think of tackling these problems by realizing the model of the single building, as for the new construction, but we must study everything in its complexity, making the appropriate simplifications.
I really enjoied this week and I can not wait to attend the next meeting.
