The Divi project
When you are interested in everything that crypto has to offer It is so easy to get hooked on crypto, jump down the rabbit hole, investigate any and every new, flashy and futuristic possibility that we tend to forget what is most important to actually make this new and revolutionary technology valuable.
It is the people using it.
Most of us might think that, after a couple of months or maybe years working and learning about crypto, it is easy to buy, trade, send and receive crypto. The truth is however that the average person is still very cautious and, perhaps, even fearful doing any of those things.
Taking it a step further, teaching them about mining and masternodes is often a bridge too far. To activate your friends and family that aren’t yet interested in crypto into reaping the (financial) benefits is in essence just way too complicated. And that is exactly the problem that Divi Project is trying to solve.
While browsing online searching for the best passive income possibilities in crypto, I came across a post on Reddit (you can find it here), where I saw the name Divi project come up multiple times. The people advocating it were very enthusiastic – more on that later - but what caught my eye was the phrase “One-click-masternode”.
I would consider myself to be above average in the tech-savvy department, but setting up a masternode has been incredibly frustrating for me, probably because I have no prior coding experience (that’s also the reason why I reviewed the Nodexo platform earlier, read more about them here). The prospect of just clicking a button and getting the entire thing up and running was exactly what I was looking for.
Divi project is more than an easy to use masternode
Delving deeper into the project before actually pressing that button, I saw there was more to the Divi project than I expected. There are a lot of masternodes available that will give you a nice ROI, however, getting a lot of worthless coins every couple of days just leaves you with a bag of worthless coins, and I am not looking to add any of those to my portfolio.
Divi project is working on a massive roadmap, but what impresses me most are the ideas they want to develop to make crypto easier to use, less scary and ready for mass adoption. Things like HRAs (Human Readable Addresses), Email/Phone number sending, MMocci (Mobile one click masternodes) and atomic swaps will make this crypto more accessible. While masternode features like being able to payout to other/multiple addresses and automatically sending a part of your rewards into a piggybank, make the node itself more interesting than most other possibilities.
Financially, and game-theory speaking they differ from most coins, enticing people to hold their coins by implementing a 5 step masternode level, each level giving more rewards, plus there is a lottery on a regular basis that rewards holders.
Just recently they announced that they are working on implementing one click lightning nodes, even available on mobile. Pretty amazing if you compare it to what is available now.
But herein lies also one of the biggest potential pitfalls of the project. Having a great ambition is definitely a positive, but it also embeds the danger of doing too many things and not being able to focus. The team members of Divi want to really make crypto easy and readily available for the masses, but this is still a daunting task. Especially if you consider the fact that the team is relatively small, and only a couple of non-founders are on the payroll. A handful of developers will have to roll out the enormous roadmap. Although what they have built so far is pretty interesting!
MOCCI
After doing my fair share of research I was hyped to try out this ‘one-click-masternode’ that the Divi project markets under the acronym MOCCI (Masternode One Click Cloud Install). To get setup I had to download the Divi Desktop. The UI looks fresh and intuitive. There are a couple of different tabs: Overview, send, receive, history etc. There are no lines of code or anything ‘scary’ to be found.
It was designed to cater to the average consumer and not the average coder, further expanding on the goal to make crypto available for mass adoption.
I had to let the system sync, and in the meantime searched where I could buy some DIVI. The starting copper node requires 100000 DIVI, and these aren’t found on the major exchanges. The most well known exchange is Cryptopia, but at the time of writing the site was still down after the hack.
The biggest volume was found on Crex24, a for me obscure and unknown platform. In the end it was easy enough (If you don’t have an account you can use my reflink!) but there just isn’t enough liquidity at the moment. One of the founders stated that they want the project to organically grow, and weren’t interested in having to pay for listings in the near future. Although I do understand the idea behind this, it doesn’t correlate with the goal of making Divi easy and accessible for everyone.
This could be a blessing in disguise though. If DIVI manages to continue and deliver on their promises, the project will eventually be listed on the bigger exchanges, in turn probably increasing in price.
I am getting sidetracked again.
Back to the MOCCI.
After sending enough DIVI to start a masternode I clicked the button:
I chose the copper masternode option, the rest of the setup progress can be best described using these 3 pictures:
click subscribe
Accept paypal transactions – these are for hosting fees – MOCCI does the rest
Wait 15 minutes.
You’re done. That’s it. You know have a Divi masternode and you will start earning passive income via Divi payouts.
Are you kidding me? The hassle of setting up a masternode has always been a major threshold for people to start one themselves, not even taking the 24/7 hosting into account.
My reaction?
And that is the exact reason why I am getting more and more hyped about this project. If the team can deliver products like these, where everything complicated and scary regarding crypto is being transferred to a simple one step solution it will be exactly what is needed to reach the masses, and get them involved into crypto.
Do you remember how I started this review? Adoption might be the most important next step for crypto, and projects like Divi are bringing crypto into a new era. The tech is working, now we need to make it accessible. Only then can we increase the people using it making this revolutionary technology valuable.
The people behind Divi
Divi’s founders are very hands on with the community, which so far has been extremely welcoming. The moment I joined the Telegram group I got bombarded with Divi via the Divi tipbot, made by one of the Divi volunteers. I tried to return the favor but people, that I have never met, kept sending me even more Divi in return.
Geoff, the CEO, took the time to greet me as well, resulting in an interview that will be posted later this week, so stay tuned! Other founders like Nick Saponaro are often found in the Telegram group answering questions.
Generally speaking there is a development update every week, meaning a blog post that updates the community. Every two weeks there is a new product release, which includes bug fixes, ux improvements, and new features. They have been able to keep up with this deadline since the start, continuing with the intended progress. And this is necessary too, if you take the entire roadmap into account.
Closing thoughts
Since I began with reviewing this project I am now literally and figuratively invested in Divi.
The enormous goal the team has setup for itself is one that I find of the utmost importance. Making crypto easier to use is how we can expand going from early adaptors, techies, and speculators, to mainstream usage.
Besides that this could be one of the best financial decisions I have made in a long time, generating passive income for the foreseeable future, but it all comes down to execution of the big plans that the team has, if they are able to stay ahead of the other projects and if they manage to acquire the right talent to keep expanding.
So far the starting point is excellent, now let’s see if the additional features will be delivered, exchanges will be added for extra liquidity and awareness of the project will increase.
I hope sincerely that Geoff and his team will accomplish this, and that this review will do it’s part on spreading the word!
