The demonisation of the Media as biased is understandable. I do it. Even the basic concept of the 'editorial line' seems a potentially sinister force. But at the same time, this demonisation is terribly dangerous, because political and financial powers do not usually like the Media, insofar as it can work as a third power against them, exposing them. To undermine the Media is therefore potentially to disempower them and allow political and financial powers to go unchecked.
In this regard, I would emphasise the value of a new kind of Media, the leak. The leak provides 'internal' account of relationships and events without the spin of traditional 'directed' media. That is to say, it allows us to see into private networks without any mediation. There is no body we must trust to pass us the information accurately, or interpret it for us reliably. Though we might, and likely will still seek such outside interpretation, the raw data is always publically available.
