The USA is not the wild west!

in #media7 years ago

You can't turn on the t.v. without hearing about gun violence in the US. The US is no where close to the shooting deaths per population than other places on the earth. https://crimeresearch.org/2015/06/comparing-death-rates-from-mass-public-shootings-in-the-us-and-europe/
The US is still one of the safest place to live regardless of what the news says. It should be called the tragic news, because tragic news sales.
I am far from anti immigration. Set aside all the 2nd Amendment stuff. How would the US keep out guns when humans and drugs are trafficked across the border every single day? Even if you could remove all the guns a million more would be on the black market by next week.
More school security is the only rational answer. One more trained staff member per hundred student would be a small price to pay for the safety of our children. Would it stop every psycho? No, but it would be better than the nothing that media talks about every second of the day.

Sort:

No one even considers the "mass shootings" involving private schools or homeschooled children.

Private and homeschooled children are much safer and are just as well if not better educated.

But in general, its a pipe dream..

Yup.

Another thing to consider was that "Wild West" cities actually had lower gun related murder rates than current US cities have.

Maybe going back to "Wild West" rules isn't such a bad thing.

Thats true.

I love this country 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 And feel extremely safe because of the second amendment. The fact that my wife and I carry firearms at all times keeps us and everyone around us safe.

Yup. Nationmaster.com has the crime rate in the U.K. is 3 times higher per cap, and they still have shootings! Who the heck would want to live there?

I actually had a very similar conversation up in the great white north of Canadanavia, where the second amendment and the right to self preservation isn't a thing.

The problem with the gun control debate is that people refuse to think about it rationally. To much emotion and not enough facts on either side of the debate. The other issue with the debate is the skewed stats. When gang violence is included the mass shooting stats and people read the stats its automatically assumed that this is at a school/mall/church ect. not some group of gangs shooting each other up.

Essentially just looking at raw data takes all the intellectual honesty out of the debate, context is important. Now everything becomes a matter of opinion.

This scares me because truth has no opinion or emotion but society in 2018 doesn't seem to think that way. All you have to do is turn on the news to see that.
