First time at the chiropractor...

in #medical6 years ago

Last Friday I decided to try something that I have never done before, and try to relieve some of my neck, shoulder, and lower back pain. I went to see a chiropractor. And it was an experience, let me tell ya. So after talking to him about my car wreck when I was a teen and VNS surgery, along with a few other things, he had decided that my fibers needed to be scraped. This is called fascial tissue remodeling and consists of breaking the fascial tissues, which are bundled up like a hair ball, so that they grow back straighter with less pain and a bit more stretch. Here is a picture from my chiropractors website (which I will put below if you want more information) that shows the difference in normal and scarred tissues.

Now I was just hoping that getting my back popped would relieve just a bit of the pain I was in, since it was causing me to be completely uncomfortable not only during the day, but also at night. It just seemed like I would wake up daily in more pain than when I went to bed, and I was also waking up constantly to switch positions in bed.

I will say that the scrapping itself was painful. Not something that I couldn't handle, considering I sit through tattoos at least every few months. But I was very surprised at how much bruising there was. In fact my husband, just messing with me, asked who had given me the hickeys when I got home! Haha!

After a few days stretches and a bit of rest, I can honestly say that it has helped more than I could hope for! I am finally waking up decently pain free (after all, I am getting old...) and I can now turn my head further than before on each side. I am ecstatic that it helped so well! I have also noticed some relief in my fibromyalgia pain and headaches as well! I'm normally one to have a headache everyday along with chronic pain, so this was just absolutely amazing to me!

If anyone would like more information, here is my chiropractors website and page about the fascial adhesions:

I'm sure you could also find a bit of information about it by just using the good ol' Google machine! ;)

Ouchhhh! i'm glad this helped, i know alot of people have had this done but didn't help!

That sucks!!! It was a bit of pain to go through but the relief and movement is worth it... I felt like an 80 year old most of the time. Haha!

I'm glad you found some relief from your pain and headaches!
The chiropractor has been pretty helpful for some of my back pain and my hip pain.

Yes! I've noticed a bit of my hip pain is gone as well. I've also been doing balance exercises to help my knees so that could also be helping the hip pain a bit too.
