Flying twice in one day?
check
Having needles repeatedly stuck in me?
check
Spending a day away from my family?
check again :(
It never occurred to me to create a list of crappy things to do in a day, but here we are :)
What is an EMG?
Asking your favorite search engine will get you better information, but from my perspective, the definition would look something like:
Electromyography is the practice of jamming two needles in someone, shooting electricity between the two, and seeing what happens
It can be used by doctors to check for conditions such as congenital myasthenic syndrome (misnomer as the disease family does have adult onset phenotypes) and periodic paralysis. While there are plenty of electromyographs (the machine used in EMG) throughout the country, only a handful of physicians are trained to produce some of the more complicated electromyograms (the data we get at the end). This scarcity is the reason I must travel to Arizona to have the testing completed
So A Miserable Day?
There's the pain of trying to fit in an airplane - I am 6'2", not so tall that I don't fit, but tall enough that the seats are pretty uncomfortable. Thankfully there will be staff to help me in and out of my seat as well as push a wheelchair around for me. Then, there will be the pain of the EMG itself. Not my first one, but my first of this type. I do not enjoy them. After that, I can complete the morning mission in reverse and fly home to my family. All of this while having been off my most helpful medication, Ampyra, for nearly 2 weeks.... but you know what else?
Should be nice weather in Phoenix, and the EMG being completed may well help many members of my extended family. I will have about 10 hours of waiting to do in a city I have only visited a couple of times. New foods will be tried, new sights will be seen, and new books will be read. There will be plenty of discomfort, but even more time to relax and enjoy the world
If things get too bad, I'll just start fantasizing about how fun it will be opening one thousand booster packs in Rising Star Game on the first of the month ;)
Y'all have good
6’2” is an annoying size for commercial airplanes. Only few carriers give those oh so welcome extra inches of leg space. I’m also 6’2” and flying a budget carrier for a trip longer than 2 hours is utter terror.
Enjoy the trip, especially the new food to try and sightseeing!
good luck bud! I hope you the best with your visit and look forward to your return!
