In the world there are various diseases. Among them, those with the highest mortality rate worldwide is cancer, followed by Ebola and HIV / AIDS.

The term cancer encompasses a large group of diseases that are characterized by the development of abnormal cells, which divide, grow and spread uncontrollably in any part of the body, which makes it difficult for it to function in the way it should.

"Among the different types of cancer that exist, the second most common is that which originates in the lung. This pathology occupies the first cause of cancer death (1.37 million deaths per year, that is, 18-20% of deaths recorded). More than half of patients die before the first year after diagnosis, basically because more than two thirds of individuals are diagnosed in advanced stages, when curative treatments are impossible. The main causes of this pathology include carcinogens such as cigarette smoke, ionizing radiation and viral infections, "explains Dr. Mirvi Molea, clinical and interventional pulmonologist at the Center for Respiratory Specialties and Sleep Disorders K26.

How to detect it?
Lung cancer can be detected through a tomography, which can determine if the disease is localized, at what stage it is and if possible the surgical approach or if its spread is such that it can not be remedied with surgery. Blood tests and pulmonary puncture can also be done to determine if the patient is able to have surgery and if there will be enough healthy lung tissue left after surgery.
