3D-bioprinting. I will print my own heart!

in #medicine7 years ago

One of the most interesting achievements of the future of science seemed 3D the same results for bioprinting — the use of a modified 3D printer to create objects like cells, live tissues or organs. Scientists can already print individual parts — skin, vertebral discs, ears and even the circulatory system — however, the experiments will be carried out on animals, and it will take at least ten years before we get rid of the endless deficit the liver, kidneys and hearts for transplant.

The biggest problem, as the researchers note, is not the creation of the authority, and duplication of complex internal network of blood vessels that nourishes parts of the body with the right nutrients and oxygen.

But there is some progress. Some people think that if governments are committed to scientific research in this area, the model is fully printed organs will be available within 10 years.

Once that is achieved, it will be even more interesting. Wrote the bioprinting pioneer Vladimir Mironov, "as soon as it will be possible to print functioning human body, it will be possible the same results for bioprinting a whole human being is only a logical continuation".
