OWERRI MEGA MEETUP: A RECAP OF EVENTS.

in #meetup7 years ago (edited)

I always read others report on a particular steemit Meetup they attended and how educative it was and how much fun they had also. Last week Saturday precisely on the 17th March, 2017, @euronation a subcommunity on steemit platform organized a steemit meet up at owerri and although I've never been to owerri before, I saw it as an opportunity to have a story to tell about a steemit meet-up I attended.

Getting to the venue, it was such a beautiful feeling seeing so many Steemians I've known online but yet to see. There were so much hugging going on and laughter filled the room. Dj thrilled us with nice tunes as the Mc @chrisdsteemsport took the center stage breaking our ribs with so much laughter from his jokes about steemit. He then introduced and ushered the guest speakers to the high table.

@eurogee, the STEEMIVANGELIST and the founder of @euronation took to the podium to read his welcome speech and keynote address. He talked about the need to keep spreading the good news of steemit around so that in ten years we can achieve a population of 50million on steemit.

@tojukaka was the first speaker and he spoke on "Interconnection between steem crypto currency, steemit and the block chain technology". He started by defining block chain. He said the block chain is a ledger or a record of transaction. He explained why the block chain is decentralized and also talked about steem being the currency of steemit. He went ahead to explain that steemit was created for steem and the block chain needs steemit as a database for input and output of information.

@gloglo a wonderful lady took the center stage and she educated us on "witness education: who they are and why we should vote for them". She explained that a witness takes care of the block chain by maintaining it. She explained that there are 20 witnesses with a supporting one. She also taught us that a steem witness is someone who creates block for the block chain and each witness has about 3 seconds to create a block. Witnesses validate time and signature and the block chain cannot exist without them.

@ehiboss talked about "password security". He said password is important and it prevents identity theft. He went ahead to explain why your password is your personality. He then told us how to save and secure our passwords using only a secure site and also using 2FA and I cannot forget this statement, "create a back up for the back up of your back up".

image
@samstickzz took the floor and educated us on crypto currency investment and why steem is the most valuable crypto currency to invest in. He explained in details using graphical illustrations. Although, sadly I missed his lecture as I was helping @Dedramaclub get ready for their presentation but I'll sure ask him for a copy.

image
@nairadaddy talked about the different projects built on steem block chain with focus on utopian-io, dlive, dtube, air-conditioning, dmania, zappy, dsound, busy.org etc. He made it clear that steemit is a fertile land yet to be fully cultivated and that we should get really creative on steemit with amazing inputs.

@gee1 another wonderful lady also spoke about smart commenting in relationship building. She reiterated the need to never spam but always leave smart comments on posts we find interesting as smart comments can get visitors to your blog. She also sounded the need to always reply comments left on your blog as that shows how much you appreciate your commenters. She also advised to always upvote comments you find interesting as that may spike the interest of the owner of the comment and a relationship may be formed in the process.

@xpency talked about "tags and their relevance in posts visibility". With particular reference to newbies on steemit. He taught them the right tags to use when writing their introduction posts and also how to go about writing a wonderful introduction post.

The highlight of the event was the drama presentation titled "Adanna, the trial of an African woman" presented by the @dedramaclub founded by @mimy. It was a magical moment watching the likes of @ehiboss @mediahousecent @illuminatus @missyj @lordshygunstin and mimy display their talents on the stage. @michaelCj also thrilled us with some amazing dance moves.

@drigweeu brought the show to end with the closing remark. It was so much fun seeing the likes of @rose-colette, @donnest, @iamchijamz, @sammyswt @adorablechi, @adabless, @evelyniroh,@royaltiesboss and a young man I respect a lot @destinysaid.
