Proving the Earth is Flat with SPAM

in #meme2 months ago

NOTE: I tried publishing this with HiveMe.me an hour ago. I apologize if it posts twice.

I was really excited when I logged in to Blurt to discover that a coordinated nest of accounts have started dropping an unending stream of posts about #flatearth .

Gosh, I am so super excited to see a group bravely posting hundreds upon hundreds of posts about their favorite theory.

Most of the posts have content written several years ago. But re-using content simply shows flat earthers are environmentally conscious.

So, to join in on the fun I decided to put a can of SPAM on a globe and took a picture the above #meme.

One can prove flat earth theory by covering the world with spam.

The proof behind flat earth claims is that if a group says something long enough and loud enough then it must be true.

Spam proves a theory true!

I Don't Mind Flat Earth Theory

I don't really mind the flat earth theory.

It appears that the earth is an oblate spheroid that formed a dimple in space time. So the surface of the earth is essentially flat for all the inhabitants of the earth. The term "up" refers to the direction from the center of mass of the earth and things behave as if they were flat in my locality.

We experience the spherical nature of the earth when we examine things globally. So the winter sun set a bit a go where I live. A person in Australia is probably experiencing something different at his moment. They might be experiencing mid day in the summer sun.

Google says that it is 1:15 PM in Australia.

I contend that a person who stands up in Australia is pointing away from the center of mass of the earth and that Austrians experience flatness in their Australian home.

I understand that the outback in Australia involves some wide open spaces that look kind of flat from eye level.

Why The Spam?

I really don't mind flat earth theory. It is interesting that one can have a Euclidean geometry on a non-euclidean surface and visa versa.

Blurt wants to be a free speech platform. The forum doesn't have a downvote button. I don't mind controversial subjects, it reminds us that we can see the world from many different points of view.

The proclivity to spam is something different from the theory.

These people move from forum to forum destroying the ability of the world to engage in open uncensored discussion.

Spam, of course, is a mechanism of censorship. Whenever a forum invites free speech, the flat earthers will hit the forum with a tidal wave of spam.

There clearly was a coordinated spam attack on Blurt today.

A group is using spam to attack a forum. The spam is the issue and not the stupid theory.

Anyway, I put a can of SPAM on a globe. I guess the idea is that one can prove a theory with spam. Anyway, I thought folks might like the #meme. You can prove the world is flat by covering the globe with spam.

I would like to give a shout out to the #hivewatchers community. Coordinated spam attacks make me appreciate that @hivewatchers down votes spammers.
