Dear memes. Its not you, its me. Why I'm unfollowing and muting some accounts.

There must be something wrong with me. Memes are popular. Just look at Twitter and Facebook: every other post is a meme. They can be funny. A few have even tickled my funny bone. Most however I find boring, unfunny and ill conceived.

I like Steem because among other things it's NOT Facebook or Twitter. Yet increasingly my feed is filling with memes. Call me humourless or boring if you like but in any other case a picture without accompanying text would be frowned upon here and be considered a shitpost. I just don't get it and I understand why others might not get me and my aversion to memes. I cannot see what value they bring to the platform, though obviously I must be in the minority on this one.

What I'm trying to say is I have started unfollowing accounts or muting those that predominantly post memes. Its nothing personal, it's just not what I want to see littering my feed. I understand some might take offense to this, and that is fine. We're all grown ups and can decide for ourselves what we agree with and what we want to see daily in our Steem feeds.

I just want to reiterate that it's nothing personal.

You're not humourless Muxxy.
You're just a grumpy old bastard, nothing to be apologetic for dude.
Embrace it, I have 😃

Bah! Humbug! Get orf mah lawn!

He said we could call him humorless! This is our chance!

Shush you

btw not everybody on this platform is a 'grown-up'. There are kids around. But also, have you ever seen a post by the dude that goes by the name of bernie sanders? Doesn't all seem very grown up to me...

I wondered how soon I'd get a meme as a reply. Lol.

Single picture posts definitely degrade my feed, I'm looking more tward the 2-5 min read most of the time. Then some bigger articles I save for later.

I prefer a more engaged content, one which conversation and insight can be found and compound. Where currently fb and tw have simply created a dopamine feedback loop with infinite scroll and machine learning curation designed to maximize user time spent on the platform.

I wonder what user stats look like here compared to there. SteemOn!

I guess I can't make the feed whitelist function soon enough :D

The sooner there are filtering options the better.

I love one specific thing in this post.
"I hate memes!
...
Like what I do? Vote for my witness !"

Are you trying to get witness votes with HATE?

Please baby... say you don't meme it?

I definitely get what you are saying. Some of them are actually pretty funny, but the majority are kind of, meh, especially the ones I've seen around Steemit. My meme would say "not sure if getting old or I just hate memes," lol.

Could this be foreshadowing of a new writing prompt contest?

"The Day Gmuxxx Gave up on Memes"

Hehe, this isn't fiction.

Yes!
Yes to giving priority to thought over slogans.
Yes to making your own choices.
Yes to having the courage to speak up.

"Thought over slogans" is my new slogan.

It's my old one ;) So go ahead, it's up for grabs.

I rarely share memes even though I've tried dmania for instance. I can totally relate to your feelings and even though I haven't muted or unfollowed anyone (yet), I might do it in the future.

However, I often look at other people feed's too, and some of them are just crazy. I can't understand how anyone can be satisfied with following 1000 different people and 500 of them are posting 3 memes per day.

I agree! Memes are fine in their proper place: Facebook and Twitter. Not on Steem. I love memes, but on Steem consider them nothing more than SPAM. I don't think you're in the minority on this.

Same here! But I guess it all boils down to preference. I was the only one who's not a fan of 9GAG and the like among my group of friends, and everybody else seems to enjoy and laught at those memes. Good for them.

But I hope Steemians will always uphold the value of quality.

@gmuxx it's not only meme's! I've have seen annoying videos that have been shuffled around on FB popping up here on users accounts, urgh!

You won't find me arguing with you on this @gmuxx. The more sh!t posts with no content value that we remove from the platform, the better all round. Thank you.

I completely agree with this. If you're going to just post memes I'm going to unfollow you. If you post memes to add to your writing that's one thing, but otherwise, I don't feel it has a place on Steemit (my opinion). I'm hoping with the upcoming community hardform memes will find a home here on the platform, but as of now I don't feel like they have a place.

its a matter of preference.....a classic "one man's meat is another's poison" case.

You have a right to choose your contents just as long as you dont impose it on others

Good post tho...i always appreciate honesty

LOL! I am with you there. I don't mind them if they are used as part of a longer article or story, but just posting a meme is pointless.

Supporting the cause here! Alternatively said: Before you post anything (especially memes), think about your followers feeds and not what's your chance for winning a contest are for example.

There should not be any offence to anybody...what you choose to see on your feed is up to you. You do not owe anybody any explanation.
well spoken

Unfortunately some people get a little precious about being unfollowed / muted. At least I can point to this post if they do.

I don't really post memes, but I couldn't help it! :D That being said, hell yeah, I get you...I'm tired of memes, too.

Pushes @gmuxx to the side, yup I am with you, I just don't get them or want my feed loaded with them...

If Steemit ever gets around to some serious upgrades on their front end I would really like to see an ability for people to choose which apps they get to see the feed from. That way we can filter out the apps like dMania that you don't want to see and only see posts from the others. People can use the platforms without inflicting the posts on their followers who don't want to see them.

Dmania has lowered the bar

Nice article, I like to read...

facebook baydı artık.

I love memes but I can't make them:)
