Metal venue review

in #metal7 years ago

This is my first post here on Steemit, I chose to review a metal concert I went to recently. My aim is merely to broaden the scope of fellow metal fans and to introduce you to some great bands.

The first band was a Tunisian prog metal band, Myrath. The show started with a young girl belly-dancing. not something you'd expect from a metal gig but it was suited to the Arabic/Northern African theme of the band. The music itself was quite electric and the band members sure did hyped everyone in the audience (even a mild mannered young man like myself :P ). The sounds were somewhat reminiscent of Dream Theater with some groovy drums. The worst part of the set was that it was, in my opinion, quite short; it lasted just shy of half an hour. But there were still more to come and with that I'll present you...!

Vuur! Dutch band recently formed meaning Fire. And It sure was fiery in more than one sense: Anneke van Giersbergen's new band was contagious in an astounding way. Her empathy with the public paired with her calm and soothing voice which quickly and seamlessly turned into a wild fire that couldn't (fortunately) be contained and even managed to raise the temperature in the room by a few degrees. Of course that'd not be possible without a great band behind her who supported the gig and made everyone happy! So, to sum up, Anneke and company were way more than a palate cleanser from the previous folks or a warm up for Epica in spite of, towards the end, her starting to hype us for them (not that anyone needed of course ;)).

And so, without further ado, the fantastic Epica!!! I think anyone who's been listening to Metal music or likes symphonic metal or even someone who, in spite of not liking the more, "heavy" metal stuff can understand how beautiful and flawless the second Dutch band of the evening is. Veterans in the metal scene and one of the most hardworking and well traveled all around the globe they still manage to impress and innovate with every album and gave us quite the fantastic show. Simone Simons's beauty and clean, perfect and warm vocals allied with Mark Jansen's brutal growls were superbly backed by every member's musical prowess and love for what they do. Moreover, the band has a chemistry between them that's palpable and endearing. From the silly jokes to the warming poses that Simone does (not only her but also Coen's "helping" Isaac playing his guitar ending with a heart shaped sign with him was quite hilarious and probably the weirdest moments of the night) the entire spectacle was top notch to say the least.
