I posted previously about metformin here:
Put simply, it's an anti-diabetic drug that has been found to also have beneficial effects on aging and is generally considered safe and well-tolerated in healthy individuals.
I've been taking it myself now for about a week at 500mg daily and thought i'd give a brief review here. So here goes:
First impressions
Immediately after taking the first dose my first impression was that this stuff tastes foul, but then most pills do so that's not an issue - if this is an issue for you i'd suggest finding a capsule form. This is also easily fixed by taking it with a drink that masks the taste.
After taking that first dose (with a bottle of Saturo - a "drinkable meal" product similar to Soylent, Huel etc) I noticed no immediate effects, and this is a good sign - this drug is not supposed to be psychoactive in any manner.
Mild side effect
A couple of times when taking my daily dose without food i've noticed a bit of nausea, but that's entirely expected and not a major issue. Apart from that there seem to be no side effects at the current dose.
Moving forward
The dose used in the studies that convinced me to start taking metformin was 1000-2000mg/daily, but for safety reasons I decided to slowly increase up to this level. I will post another review noting any side effects when I increase to 1000mg in a week's time.
