RE: Life in the Barrio

in #mexico8 years ago

To an extent, I see some of this spirit in the small towns of Costa Rica as well. They don't try to sell to you on the streets like they do in San José, but they do have that entrepreneurial spirit. There are a lot of self-starters that dream of having something as simple as a plot of land for a small coffee farm. They don't beg on the street corner, but they'll find something to sell you if you're looking to buy!

When I visited the Dominican Republic, it was vastly different. Most people had something to sell you and even more were simply begging. That place isn't in very good shape, especially the barrios and the old rotting plantation houses where the Haitian immigrants live. Talk about poor...those were some people who desperately needed help. Despite their poverty, they had a lot of faith and always managed to put a smile on their faces.

In any case, it's always good to get out and see different parts of the world and to help when you can. I'm trying to do my part as a voluntaryist and a free market enthusiast. I'm in the start-up phase of business and hope to get some support through Steemit to get things going. Check out my post if you're interested.
