To begin, I was born in the Mexican State of Michoacán, but I was raised in the United States of America. I used to go back regularly as a child with my parents. I did continue to go back as an adult for a while. Unfortunately, it has been quite a long time now since I've returned.
Growing up and going to visit isn't the same thing as being there day after day. You miss out on a lot of details you might have gotten in school or just in living your daily life in a place. So, what did I miss out on?
Up above is the Coat of Arms for Michoacán de Ocampo. The motto, "Heredamos Libertad - Legaremos Justicia Social" or "We Inherited Freedom, We Will Bequeath Social Justice." Another motto for the state is, "El Alma de Mexico" or "The Soul of Mexico."
Before the Europeans came from Spain this area was the home of the Purépecha Empire. You've most likely heard of the Aztec and the Maya, but did you know the Purépecha Empire rivaled the Aztec Empire at the time of the Spanish arrival?
That's all for now. In my next post I would like to write about Michoacán's 8 "Pueblos Magicos." Something I was not aware of until I started this post.
