The first official look of Captain Marvel has arrived from an unlikely source. Brie Larson is introduced as Captain Marvel at the San Diego Comic Con 2017. Captain Marvel is potential leader of the crew in the post-Avengers 4 phase. Images of official Captain Marvel merchandise on Amazon.com show Oscar-winner Brie Larson’s superhero in all her ‘90s glory.
The images were brought to everyone’s attention by Marvel fan accounts on Twitter and Instagram. The two images of official Captain Marvel notebooks show the character with her hair blowing in the wind, and also teases a tagline: ‘Protector of the skies’.
This identifies Captain Marvel as the latest in Marvel’s line of intergalactic characters, following the likes of the Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor. Several Marvel films have explored the far reaches of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and future films are expected to continue this trend.
Marvel chief Kevin Feige had previously explained why the studio was tapping into the ‘90s action genre. “The answer is, you’ll see in the storytelling of the movie.” Feige had told the Toronto Sun. “But it allows us to play in an area that we have never played in before and tapping into a ’90s action genre was fun for us and being able to see an earlier part of the MCU before Nick Fury knew anything about aliens or anything about super-powered people and also tapping into the Kree-Skrull War, which in the comics was a huge part of the comic mythology, seemed like a fun thing to try and a fun way to give Carol Danvers her own standalone origin story.” According to multiple reports, the character could possibly take over as the leader of the Avengers in the series’ post-Avengers 4 phase, which will likely introduce new faces after the original lineup makes way for the new. Carol was introduced at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, when Nick Fury sends out a distress signal to her upon seeing the effects of Thanos’ finger snap.
The film, due out in March 2019, just a couple of months before Avengers 4, will also star Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury - but with both his eyes. Jackson had teased Captain Marvel’s massive potential in an interview to Vulture.
