Suzuki to launch electric scooter in 2020

Suzuki's Japanese subsidiary Suzuki Motorcycle India, Japan's two-wheeler maker, has announced to launch its first electric scooter in India by 2020.

The company's Executive Vice President Sajeev Rajshekharan said that our two teams are working on future products of two-wheeler market in India. One team is in Japan while the other is in India. New electric scooters will be lowered based on the suggestions of teams. For this, the company is also considering other issues including setting up new plants and network expansion in India, which will be finalized within the next few months.

Rajasekharan said that considering the success of Suzuki's products in the two-wheeler market for the past two years, there may be a need to invest new ones here. In the year 2016-17, Suzuki had sold 3.5 lakh two-wheelers, which increased to 5 lakh in 2017-18.

In the first two months of the current financial year, the company's two-wheeler sales have increased by 40 percent. Last week, the company has launched its much anticipated Bergman Street, which is expected to increase sales in the coming months.

Through this scooter of X showroom price of 68 thousand rupees in Delhi, Suzuki has offered a strong challenge to its flagship competitor Honda. Looking at the sharp increase in sales, the company has also planned to expand rapidly in many parts of the country.

Currently there are 1,000 showrooms under the company's network, which has been expanding to 1,400 by two years. In the case of products, the company's main focus will be on scooters, but there is a plan to gradually lift more motorcycles
